6 cysts in right ovary

6 cysts in right ovary

I have a history of ovarian cysts, fibroids, and painful periods for over 10 years. I am 52 and found out today that I have 6 cysts on the right ovary that have vascular connections. I also have a cyst on the left side. The PA suggested I take a CA 125 today. She told me the doctor will want to discuss surgical options and she implied that having both ovaries removed was a good idea.
Would it be reasonable to have the uterus taken too? I had my last period in July '09 but blood work does not show hormone problems. I had cryoablasion 2 years ago to help aleviate heavy bleeding.
My doctor's appointment is not until next week. Are there certain questions I should ask? Information is power and I want to be ready.
Any advise would be appreciated.

Hi There
it sounds like you are getting a good evaluation.
If you are still having painful periods, a full hysterectomy makes sense.
If your uterus in now not painful, there is no abnormal bleeding, you have no pain, and your pap smear is normal, then just removing the ovaries is reasonable
best wishes
