9 cm ovarian mass

About a year ago I noticed a change in my energy. I got tired easily. Now let me tell you I used to walk 4 miles a day and excersice daily. So I went to the doctor and got a UA and he noticed blood. He asked if I was on or close to my period and yes I was just getting off my period. So that was the end of it. About 5 months ago I went to another doctor and told him what I was feeling. He gave me blood tests and UA, again blood in my urin and he said it maybe a UTI and said we would watch it. About 2 months later had another UA and still blood, he done a PAP and cath and said it looked like vit was coming from my vagina not my bladder so he said that if it  continued we would need to get a sonogram. I have been dealing with heartburn, fatigue, pain in my left side, pain during sex, and bloating. So on october 7th I went back with my complaints again and we did all the usual tests. And again blood in UA. He called me that evening when he got the results.I had a sonogram done on the 8th of october. they found a mass larger than 9 cm in my left ovary region.I went to see a GYN october 13th. She done a PAP and abdominal sonogram and vaginal sonogram. Found several fibroids and the mass on my ovary. now getting ready for complete hysterectomy. I am worried aabout ovarian cancer. I have looked up the  symtoms of ovarian cancer and it is scary. I have them all.

I agree that a gyn/onc should do the surgery or be ready to step in if needed.  I wish you a good outcome and am sorry you have to go through this.  Marie

So sorry you are going through all of this.
One thing that hasn't been mentioned is the importance of having a gyn/oncologist perform your surgical procedure; or, as in Irene's case, be standing buy just in case his additional skills are needed.
I hope you wake to find all is benign and you have a quick recovery.
Peace.

Ty so much. Yes mine are very large and my GYN recomends surgery.  I am worried I guess because my sister has cancer and most of my dads sisters also have had cancer too.

They did nothing for my fibroids. They don't affect me now that I'm not having monthly periods. A friend of mine had fibroids and she had such heavy periods that they eventually decided to do a hysterectomy.

It's between you and your doctor as to what to do about the fibroids. If they're that large and uncomfortable, your doctor may want to get it all out anyway. I don't think mine are that large. I think my tummy is poofy because of Oreos and mint patties. LOL

Let us know about the surgery date and here's hoping your ovary comes out clean.

I thank you for your response. They are gooing to call and set up surgery early in the week. What did they do for your fibroids? I have several of them. I look about 7 months pregnant. So I would like to get my uteris removed as well as my left ovary. Any thoughts on that?

An ovarian cyst can also cause the same symptoms. I know because I had the fatigue and bloating, bathroom problems, etc. A couple years ago I had a 10 cm cyst removed. Originally my doctor was going to do a full hysterectomy: I was post menopausal, had the giant ovarian cyst and some uterine fibroids. She figured why not get rid of it all? Instead the surgeon recommended I just have the ovary and cyst removed. Less risk, less trauma to the body and a quicker recovery. I went in (yes, there was an oncologist nearby just in case), they removed the cyst, ovary and tube. I recovered and am doing just great. The cyst was benign. So not all ovarian things are cancer. They'll know more when they get in there.

Any idea when your surgery is scheduled?
