9cm suspected endometrioma

by Jessica8, Apr 05, 2005 12:00AM
Hello,

Just wondering if anyone has any advice...It was determined that I have a 9cm cyst on my left and two on my right...2cm and 6cm.  OBGYN said I have to have laparotomy because they are so big and I should have it ASAP.  I don't have any children but want them dearly.  I went to a specialist and he is doing a second ultrasound but is planning to do it laparoscopic and does not seem to think it is urgent.  I won't have surgery until June-July.  This does not seem right to me and I am panicked and want them removed now.  Won't this progress...get larger...destroy my ovaries if I wait?

I had an endometrioma the size of a grapefruit, along with my ovary and fallopian tube, removed by laparascopic surgery.  The doctor also removed as many of the endometrial implants as possible.  I had surgery as quickly as possible after the discovery of my cyst, due in part to the fact that we were not certain exactly what the cyst was (it contained both solids and fluids), or whether it was benign or malignant.  My cyst was also growing very quickly; it had damaged the ovary and the tube, by the way.

I think that you should discuss  your concerns about having children with the doctors if you have not already done so.  You could also seek a third opinion, possibly with a reproductive specialist if none of your doctor's specialize in that field.
