A bit of Good News

I have posted a few times in the past with questions about my Sister-In-Law's unfortunate diagnosis of Stage 3 OVCA. She was riddled with the stuff and suffered from an intestinal obstruction that kept her on IV nutrition and hospitalized for the past 3 months or more. Her doctors decided they could not let the obstruction remain any longer and after her 3rd round of Chemo decided to do surgery to remove it. Much to our surprise when they opened her they found they were able to remove almost ALL of the cancer (hysterectomy..appendectomy..colostomy)except some nodes in her intestines that are too dangerous to remove but they feel her remaining chemo treatments should shrink them.
Her original prognosis was VERY bleak Especially with the obstruction so this was GREAT news. The colostomy may even be reversible. She now has a better prognosis than we thought possible. Her surgery was just on Sunday and she is already out of ICU. Of course we realise that she may likely have reccurence but originally we wondered if she would ever leave the hospital.
I just wanted to share this news to give some hope to people who are scared. I know she is looking forward to EATING and being HOME with her family.

God Bless and good luck to everyone! I'll update again and hopefully with more good news.

That is wonderful news! My mom also was just dx with ovca last Friday. She is also a stage 3 but doctors were able to remove all her cancer also. She also had a obstruction in the hospital but she came home Saturday and is doing great. Actually we all went out to dinner tonight (including her) and she looked great. I hope your sister-in-law continues to do well. Laurie

Great News!  I am sure her spirits are lifted with the "better prognosis", but stay positive for her.  I think attitude has a lot to do with the "general outcome". My thoughts and prayers will be with you and your Sister In Law!  Pleas keep us up to date!
