Dear Diane:

If you read my previous post my wife is doing just fine. The word for her is stable. To me it's like remission. Her Ca 125 has remained at 88 and was lower at 72 if not for postponing treatment because of the bloods.

Now I wish Plady is also reading this post, but the other way to get Avastin is to call the manufacturer themselves, Genentech at (650) 225 1000 and ask for the department for assistance on how to get the drug for a catastrophic disease or for a humanitarian reason if your insurance won't cover it. This came from a friend-Oncologist.

If you also read my post headed under the Recurrence Forum just below this, ask your Onc if you can start taking Femara or Tamoxifen.

We are on low dose Gemzar and Avastin since January 2007 and we added Femara lately. If Carbo won't work with Avastin ask her if Cytoxan is better (the actual clinical trial with great results).

I pray that the drugs you will be taking will work on you and thanks for your prayers. Please keep us informed.

I was not accepted into the NCI study because I didn't met there protocol.  Since I was still in pain which made my blood pressure go up plus my heart rate they would not let me into the study.  They told me if I wanted to wait a few more weeks to get it under control I could, but also told me that I only had a small window to wait.  The two drugs together cause high blood pressure and most of the women on the study are on blood pressure meds for this.  They don't want you going into the study with high pressurer.  So I came home and started on weekly carbo, while still fighting the insurance company for Avastin.  On there website there is a foundation which will replace the drug if your insurance company will not pay for it.  So last week we fill out all the paper work to see if we could get it paid that way.  In the meantime other then doing the weekly carbo I am not sure what I are going to do if this dosen't work.  I am getting worried because my CA 125 has double and is now over 900.

Jatoo how is your wife doing?  I hope everything is still going good for her.

Take care and my thoughts and prayers are you and your family and everyone on this forum.

Very interesting Helen.

Artesunate (INN) is part of the artemisinin group of drugs that treat malaria.

The more angiogenic drugs that are discovered that don't have a dreaded side effect is remarkable for all of us.

Any word on Diane B? Was she accepted at NCI?

Thanks

I don't know what you mean, artesunate seems to be an anti-malarial drug that is not available in the US or the UK.  The abstract does relate that it does work like VEGF, and maybe an alternative with testing.
