A wish for us all at Christmas

I haven't posted just recently so just trying to catch up! Had a CT scan on Dec 7th - the barium meal caused constipation which started to clear the day I started my first Caelyx (Doxil) on the 14th. This was followed by the most dire constipation again (although I thought I had taken enough steps to avoid it!) which, after truck loads of 'medicine' is just starting to clear eight days later!  Haven't done half of my planned jobs for Christmas as all I wanted to do was lie down - but we're getting there now hopefully!
Re the Caelyx - I understand that side effects can get worse as the treatments progress but apart from affecting my taste buds - nasty taste in the mouth which I also had with Carboplatin - that seems all. My hair may start to fall out next week apparently but my wig is on standby:-)

We are banning using the computer for a few days over Christmas - it is also used for business so we are giving it all a rest - so I would like to wish everyone the best Chistmas possible and the hope that the New Year brings better prospects for all of us!

Love to all from
Ruth in the UK xx

Yes, Mary, I was surprised that some of my old posts were still around.    Hopefully, they are still helping people.

And I was so, so glad to see some of our cancer fighters are still around this forum.  It is incredible how much has changed in the field of ovca in the past few years.    If the disease is given  the proper attention and research.... I pray that ovca will eventually have the same great odds of survival that patients with most types of  breast cancer now have.

As for me, overall, I am fine.  I have been havng some problems with mildly persistent cysts on my remaining ovary.  It is most likely due to the fact that I am peri-menopausal, and only have that one ovary.  And, now that I know what is going on inside there, I suspect that particular ovary has had repeated cyst issues over the years, and I was less aware of it.    In fact, I think all that stuff in there was one big disaster area, just waiting for the "Big One".  I was blessed it was really  nothing.

I am still using those exercise techniques, with the exercise ball, to break up scarring and adhesions, too.  Am I ever glad you shared that tidbit of information with us back then!!  I knew I had a problem with scarring on my skin, but I did not expect to have it inside as well.

Last but not least, I am still working in home health care.  (Translation: I have not won the Lottery yet!!)

WOW....this is a wish come true. Seriously...now that the format has changed over the year and so many old posts pop up now and then, I see your name now and then. And, I remember back in 2004 when you and I posted back and forth...and, since then, too.

For some reason, I have been drawn back here, too, for some reason.

Anyway, I wanted to say hello and it was so nice to see your name pop up. I had been wondering how you were doing.

Fondly,

Mary

On the 15th of December 2004, I had surgery to remove a large mass, along with the ovary and fallopian tube to which the mass was attached.  Despite the fact that pre-surgical tests could lead one to conclude that I might have ovarian cancer - my mass was benign.

I found this website prior to my surgery, and I found great support and advice here.

Every year since, at this time of year, I recall my diagnosis, my surgery, and I think about this website.

I decided to stop by and wish you all a Happy Holiday Season, a most Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year.    May your hearts be at Peace.

Hi Ruth....It's  crazy down here too. I just heard on the news that one large shopping centre was still doing a roaring trade at 3am this morning. Heavens... what sane person would be out shopping at that hour? Crazy Aussies of course. :-) Anyhow, I hope you have a great time, and are well enough to enjoy it all.... Hugs...Helen...

Thanks for all your good wishes and the same to you all. Finally went shopping for the Christmas food today -what a scrum!! Didn't feel like it before - I never normally leave it this late - I have been reminded why today!!

The family offered to go alone but there are some things you just can't trust to anyone else so we all went:-)

Merry Christmas
Ruth xx

Sorry you have been having such a rough time. I was on Doxil for 7 months and actually the worst side effect that I had was MAJOR fatigue. Later on I did develope hand-foot symdrome on my feet, amd had to miss a treatment because of it, but we got it under control. Please make sure that you follow all of the guidelines that go with it (such as avoiding hot water, avoiding anything that causes friction on the hands and feet, esp for the first 5-7 days, etc.) On a high note, they told me that I would probably lose my hair, but I didn't, and I later found out that most people don't. I hope that you are feeling good enough to enjoy the holidays and that your next treatment will be after they are over. (I don't know how I got so lucky, but I have to go in for a treatment on Christmas Eve morning! Thankfully Topotecan is fairly tolerable) Wishing you and your family a very Merry Christmas!  LOL Chris

Hi Ruth... Good to hear from you, as I've been wondering how it was going for you. My Oncol. prescribed about 6 boxes of imodium for me... none of which I've needed. Might send them over to you if you get diarrhea. :-) But.. glad to hear that it's not all too bad for you at the moment, and so hopefully you should have a lovely Christmas dinner. The wine might taste yuk though.
I wish you a great New Year too Ruth, and hopefully we'll all get some good news.
It's turned wintery here now... lots of heavy rain, and has become cold. Not at all like our usual Summer, but it's supposed to fine up and be 25degC for Christmas Day. Do hope so.
Wishing you a very Happy Christmas Ruth, and look forward to catching up in the New Year... Aussie hugs...love..Helen..
