AZD2171

Has anyone participated in the Clinical Trial for AZD2171. I am considering it for persistent OVCA.  Other options include Doxil,Topotecan, Cytoxan or hormone therapy. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Hi There,
Here is some information. I have also pasted some links that you can look at. There are currently 21 phase I and II clinical trails using this agent in a wide range of different cancers.  It works by interupting the cell mechanism for growth and recruitment of blood vessels. Currently all the trials are looking at the toxicity profile (phase I studies) and the appropriate dosing (phase II trials). There currently is not information comparing how well it works when compared to known chemo agents such as doxil (phase III trials). Those trials will happen if the phase II trials show promise.

It is hard to know how to advise you on this. There is no wrong answer. You have many options. If you are feeling well and do not have any major medical problems such as heart or kidney disease, going on a clinical trial may be reasonable. The other drugs you have listed are all well known agents that have some effect in ovarian cancer. They are available to use in the future if AZD2171 is not helpful.

AZD2171 is a highly potent and selective VEGF signalling inhibitor that inhibits all three VEGF receptors and is suitable for once daily oral dosing. It is being evaluated to determine its effect as a VEGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitor and its potential to impact tumor angiogenesis.
