Add me to the 99% club - but.....

Ok so I'm doing a mini happy dance.  Doc called with path report and it was dermoid on left and endo on right.  No cancer anywhere!   BUT.....There was this whole issue of finding a bit of scarring on my liver.  She said it is about a 3cm area that looks superficial to the liver.  I asked could it be an endo adhesion and she said it is not typically what they see but this is something more for my internist to answer.  She said sometimes they find "fibrosis" on the liver and don't really know what causes it.

So my internist has ordered an abdominal US and a bunch of blood work.  I told the ob/gyn that I thought this was overkill - I mean I am obviously healthy and I am tired of tests and surgeries, etc.  She said "oh just do it - it is unlikely to lead to more surgery but at worst a liver biopsy".  HUH????  Is that supposed to make me relax?  So I have blood work today and US tomorrow.  I don't know whether to scream or cry.  I should be happy, relieved and ready to move on and now this liver thing.  Does anyone have any thoughts or experience with anything like this.  I am not freaking out but just really frustrated.  I'm thinking also, why the heck didn't you take a biopsy while you were in there if you thought it was something concerning?  UGHHHH!

I forgot to ask you this in email and since I know you just posted I'll ask here.  What are they looking for in that blood work?  Did she say?  Is it the enzyme test?

I guess the blood work is a liver function test.  I have had it done in the past - as recently as a year ago and it was fine.  The nurse said this will be more comprehensive.   I can't find anything when I google other than Hep C and cirrhosis.  I wonder if they will test me for that.

Where are you located-US or Cananda, or other?  I am just asking because they may test you for HepC.  Have you ever had a blood transfusion before?  What about an illness after coming back from winter trips in the islands or Mexico?  The HepC can cause cirhosis.  Also, here in Canada there was a long running class action suit about Hep C that patients got from transfusions before they started testing the blood for it.  We are talking 15 to 20 years ago.  They have since tested for it.
I had a liver biopsy to verify my diagnosis or cirhosis.  I don't think they will want to do it if  your blood work is ok.
Good luck.

Thanks livertrans I was hoping you would read.  I have not had a transfusion but have spent a fair amount of time in Mexico.  I am wondering if they will test me for hep c.  I am having the blood work this afternoon.  I have no symptoms of anything and I just ran a marathon in October so it would seem to me to be fine.

Depending on how they do blood work in your practice, you may be able to see the orders for the lab or just ask for a copy of the orders and then look them up on Labtests online.com. They tell everything about a specific test and what it might show. That ios what I always do. Good luck. Cindi
