Admormal pap smear and high CA 125

I went to see my doctor for an over 40 phsycial.  My pap smear turned out abnormal.  I had low grade liasons.  I then went to see a ob-gyn.  He did a procedure using vinager, but found nothing.  He then order a ultrsound on my ovaries and a CA 125.  He also did a biopsy while in the office.  The biopsy and ultrsound came back ok but my CA 125 was 75.  I went to your website to look for information, and found that a high Ca 125 does not mean cancer.  My doctor order another CA 125 test to be done in 6 weeks.  My doctor told me not to worry it could be anything.  However I am concerned.  My mother had two types of cancer, ovarian cancer along with a fast growing cancer.  She fought cancer for 9 years until she past away with it last year.  It just seems odd that I have 2 abnormal results.  Is there any other way to confirm that I don't have cancer and is 6 weeks a normal waiting period for a CA 125?  Also should my pap test be redone. I never found out what caused it to be adnormal?

A simple infection or vaginitis can cause an abnormal pap smear result.  If the infection clears, then the new cell growth detected by the later pap smear is normal.  Likewise, an infection can cause elevated CA-125 test results.  Considering your family history of cancer, you are wise to have followed-up your first test results with more tests and appointments with an ob/gyn.
