Advice cont'd.....

sorry.....mistake so nervous and angry hit wrong button! Anyway said why the pre-op appt when i (to my understanding)am only
going to have laproscopy in day surgery and she's like i don't know.So i said well what's going on.She's like well you'll have to wait to talk to doc on the 15th.I said i had a ct scan 3 wks ago now this info, you can't say anything and can't see doc. So then she starts to get angry..Says i've already explained the procedure and have told you many times this is the way it is.Talks in totally condecending voice and almost authoritative...I am so angry and upset.Anyway would like to know is this normal procedure as far as the pre-op appt for day surgery? Sorry for the venting..

I agree with all of the other post. I had pre op before laparo.  At my Pre op I spoke with the anesthesiologist.  The day of the surgery I was able to speak with my doctor about the procedure before hand.  Don't let the nurse stress you out, some people are just out of touch and have no compassion.  Go ahead with your procedure, this is for your benefit not hers. Good luck!

It is normal to have pre-op appointments for day surgery :) I am having my surgery on the 14th and my pre op appt is on the 9th. I have had a few day surgerys and always had pre op appt. Plus my Dr. sees me during this pre op appt to answer any questions and explain the surgery again, plus do the normal blood tests and all. Hope your surgery goes well!!! Mari

Yes,it is at least that is my understanding but now not sure as don't know results and can't get them. But at least i know it is normal now to have a pre-op appt.Secretary could have said that instead indicated this is not always the case only if the Doc
wants it.Confusing..

When I had to have my outpatient lap I also had to do pre-op.  I think its more of a "just in case" kinda thing.  Like in my case I ended up in the hospital for 5 days.  Hang in there.

Hey Mary
I hope this helps!
I am having my lap on Nov. 21st. And I have to do a pre-op as well. It really is normal procedure.
One thing I do is always get a copy of my reports. I usually wait a few days and then call medical records to get a copy of labs or any tests that I have had done. I feel that if I can read the results myself when I do go in to see the Dr. I can ask questions. I know this is not very comforting by I wanted to share it with you.
Hang in there!!

Thank You for the info. The last time I asked she said the doctor doesn't do that ..only if she feels there is a problem or needs to talk to you..in other words don't call us,we'll call you.

When I had my tonsils out (I was in my mid 30s...hehe) I had to go for pre-op and that was only 4 hour stay in the hospital. I think that anytime you under go anstesia (sp??) you need to be checked and obtain medical clearence.

I am so sorry that the nurse is so so so so, just not nice and helpful.  It is such a trying time for you and you would think that you would get support from the doctors staff.

Is there a way to leave a message to have the doctor call you back?
