Am I in panic?

by Hazel30, Jun 15, 2009 08:52PM
My Mom is 3.5 years since dx ovca 3c, been on several chemo treatments and 1 month out of surgery for removal of her gallbladder and just finished her 3rd cycle of gemzar.  After gallbladder surgery ca-125 showed a double increase which was at 394.  We were hopping it was from surgery.  Two weeks ago started sever nausea and stomach discomfort.  Some bile vomiting and decrease in appetite, also hopping was from surgery.  Oncologist wasnt too happy about this, thought maybe complications from gallbladder removal or progression in disease and to determine which one they sent us to the hospital to preform several GI tests, CT scan, & xrays.  My Mom was also a little dehydrated so they put her on IV, she's been there 3 days and coming home tomorrow.   The conclusion of all her tests is that all the symptoms she is having is the progression of disease.  her ca-125 a week later which is today is 526.  The doctors are saying with new treatment all the discomfort and nausea will go away, sounds great butI know there is no guarantee that doxil will do the trick.  With all this I am in terrible panic, depression, and fear.  What does all this mean.  My Mom went from 2 months ago to being absolutely fine to now vomiting bile.  It doesnt happen all the time but every other day.  I know cancer and vomiting is not a good mix so I dont know what to think, I am driving my self crazy.  The tears just dont stop, I am confused.  I spoke to her oncologist today regarding the CT scan and he said there is progression but not too bad her previous enlarged lymph nodes are more enlarged and some new seeding in the peritoneum which is probably whats causing the nausea.  No major organs touched.  The ca-125 is another crazy thing, why so high, she never had such a high ca-125 nor did she every have such a high jump, maybe 20-40 points but not double.  I asked the doctor I've seen things change quickly for many women and this is making me very nervous...what does this all mean.  Can things change for worse and can this be reversible with doxil?  So my question is to the most knowledgeable people, the ones actually going through all this, what does all this mean?  My Mom vomiting, is this a bad sign ?  My beautiful mother is 49 years old and I cannot watch this happen to her.  I cannot do anything for her but tell her how much I love her.

Very sorry about your mother's situation.  She is so lucky to have you standing by all the time, I can imagine how pround she is to have you as a such caring duaghter.  Please be strong for her this time, I don't think anyone know wether doxil will work or not until she tries.  You are doing a lot for her such as saying how much you love her, preparing her for the new chemo. doing things together ect. We are all here to help each other while travelling on this difficult journey.  Hope you will have a better day tomorrow.

Peace and Love
