An interesting observation by my GYN and an awkward moment

Hi Everyone,

I went for my pre-op appointment today.  My gyn tried to assure me that he feels all my pain and discomfort is the result of endometiosis/scar tissue...not my cyst or anything worse.

He was the one who performed my myomectomey 5 years ago.  My doc said something along the lines of how I seem so nervous about my laparoscopy whereas the myomectomy was a much bigger deal (I am paraphrasing him in a major way).  I told him that I wasn't nearly as nervous with the myomectomy because I wasn't experiencing much (if any) pain back then.  I told him that it's the pain that now scares me.  My doctor said, "No, I don't think it's the pain that scares you.  It's what you think I might find that scares you."  BINGO!!!!  Maybe my fear is really obvious (I'm sure it's written all over my face and every where else that's visible), but it was comforting to have him state the reason of my fear.  I didn't have to tell him.

An awkward experience today...when I told my doc that I have pain on the right cheek of my bum, my doc started explaining how endometriosis often invades the uterine sacral ligament (or something like that) so he showed me this general area on a diagram.  He then touched this area on me (kind of in the mid section of my lower back).  I then took his hand and placed in on the middle of my right butt cheek and said, "No, the pain is here, not in the middle of my lower back."  I think I took him by surprise when I placed the palm of his hand on my butt. ;-)

OMG I have the same lump only it is on my left hip area and I have pain in the left butt cheek.  Only problem there is that I don't have a left ovary anymore.  It was removed along with a rather large dermoid on 12/21/05.  Could this be the result of scar tissue?  Very confusing, I must say.

Hi Tascha,

How long have you had your lump for? I don't no what mine is yet I get my C.T scan results tomorrow. Do you feel your moving around? How big is yours? I think that I actually have several and it feels large. It presses on my right hip and the pain radiates to the lower right hand side of my back and it has recently started raidiating down the top of my right hand bottom cheek. How long have you had pain for? One of the many doctors I have seen have told me that I have appendix problems and that its a Lipoma, but I have been having all these other Gyno problems start since this lump appeared like heavy bleeding, spot bleeding after sex, sore breast for 3 months, the list goes on.

I also get pulling feels on my right hand side.

Do you think that yours is from scar tissue from previous surgery?

Hope you are well.

I did not notice it until about 8 weeks post surgery.  It doesn't move or anything.  I thought it could be a little fat roll, but I don't have one on my right side.  I'll bring it up to my dr next time I see him.  I still have a transva/us scheduled for April 17 to check on a cyst that is growing on my little 10% ovary or tube (doc seems to think it is on the tube).  Anyway, just loving this watch and wait....NOT!

Hi,

You are so funny that was one good way of letting him no where the pain is, he must have had a hernia when you grabbed his hand and put it on your bot bot. Is your doctor okay? Endo and Cysts have the same symptoms. I had endo cut out of the cul de sac and ligaments last year.

Do you have a sore hip? I have a weird lump thats pressing on my right hip and its causing lower back pain and I to have a sore bot bot at the top of the right cheek, its very uncomfortable. I think that we are all going to become experienced Gynocologists after all these problems.

What is a Myomectomey?

I hope you are feeling better.

Take care

Hi katen04, I haven't posted since february but when I read your statement about a lipoma I just had to put in my two cents. I had a lipoma removed back in 2002. I was having lower back pain and trouble getting up and down from a sitting position trouble kneeling and it kept getting worse. It seemed to radiate from a certain spot as i was always asking my hubby to rub there. Doctors attributed to my weight gain. Anyway my hubby finally finds a little lump when rubbing the same old spot. Ct shows nothing and the doc dsends me to a surgeon. she says it's just a lipoma and that little thing can't be causing your pain. Needless to say that was in Feb 2002 and in dec 2002 it is the size of an egg and you can see it when looking at my back.  So the surgeon says yep I think we should remove that. After surgery she tells us it was 5inches wide had six tentacle like fingers growing out from it and went so deep down to my hip bone She called two other surgeons in to make sure she got it all. Then says yep that was probably responsible for all your pain.    YA think!!!  UGHHHHH. Don't let them tell you it can't  be the source of your pain!  Take care.

Hi Krull,

What kind of surgeon did you go to, to get it removed? I didn't know that they have tentacles. My lump thing is huge I can't make out the size of it and I also have a lump over the lining of my liver but that doesn't seem to be causing any pain. Did your Lipoma cause any Gyno problems?

Have a good day

Take care

Hello again, She was just a general surgeon that my gp recommended. She had experience with lipomas and said they are common and can come back or multiply as most people commonly have more than one. I don't know if that one was causing my gyno problems back then but maybe it was. I had just had a tubal a few weeks before I had my first visit with her that's why I didn't push getting it removed. It was only about nickel size and you couldn't see it but you could feel it and move it around. By December my hubby could see it and it was the size of an egg. The surgeon did say by then that lots of times what you feel is only the tip of the iceberg As was my case. She had never seen one with those tentacles before hence her decision to call in two other surgeons. When i first started experienceing my back and hip pain I thought it was another lipoma but then it moved in my pelvic and abdomen and hence my masses/cyst were found. Don't really know but guess i'll find out as Doc #4 who is a surgeon has scheduled me for a lap on May 5th. Finally a doctor who listened and believes there is a problem.Did take him my 2 ct scans and 2 tvus but he basically pushed them aside and told me to tell him what the trouble was.
He really listened. So even though I had to wait 1 1/2 hours after my appt time to see him it just might be worth it!
Just keep an eye on yours and if you notice a change tell the doc asap. God Bless!

A myomectomy is the removal of a fibroid.  I had one the size of a large orange removed my uterus.
