Another drop in CA.125-Good news.

Hello everyone... rather than hi-jack someone else's post I thought I would start this little one as I'm quite pleased with my latest CA.125. I know some of you girls with those lovely low numbers will probably throw your hands in the air with my story... :-)... but I started out mid December with a count of 7500. After 4 Taxotere/Carbo treatments, I'm now down to 1030. Phew!!! It's good to see it going the other way for a change.
Had treatment No.5 today, and if it's still working, then I'll front up for No.6. but the Oncol. seems to think that it could taper down now.
Any suggestions on what could be good to give what's left a good kick? I don't have solid tumour...microscopic, so we need something that will blast the rest of it.
Strangely, I've felt fine all thoughout with the high numbers, have a great appetite and an active life, so this disease sure is a strange one to work out.... if that's possible.
Wishing each and everyone of you the best, and hope everything continues to go well for you all.  *hugs*...Helmar....

Congratulations!  I feel very guilty about my concern with a small increase in my single digit CA 125 numbers, but I am just thrilled for your success.  It is always good to read one of your posts and to hear the positive attitude in your words.  I wish I could give you an answer on how to kick this blasted thing, but I think you're doing an amazing job ~ just keep the spirits up and those numbers down.  You're in my prayers.  God Bless!  Judie :)

Dear Helmar:

Congratulations! For a while, you were worried that you had a 7,000 CA 125 and then I told you that there were patients at 15,000. Well you are getting close to a two(2) digit figure. It might be good to wait how the CA 125 will level off after the sixth cycle.
Remember that there are people around here on a one(1) year maintenance. Keep up with your good spirits. It is contagious.

Well done Helen-you must feel great. You really deserve to have good news. Sorry I'm not able to help you with ideas for any other treatments but there are bound to be some in the forum who can give their views.
Love, Catharine

So happy for you that your numbers are starting to drop....Gosh, I had no idea that they got up that high and even higher...Stupid that we react to numbers the way we do.  Well I do hope that you get that blast that you need.  I am sending you positive energy!!!

Is the ginger you take a ginger extract or a powder in a capsule?  I was looking on a website and all I found was a 500mg ginger extract.  Do your Drs have any problem with you taking it?

I am not defending the doctors in any way but I always tell people to search for a doctor in his/her mid 40ts, a young doctor is ok for those minor medical needs, but experience is still the best teacher. There is way too much for a medical student to learn nowdays in the 7 to 10 years they have. They gain their knowledge by working with the older doctors and observing them. If you end up with a young doctor , that is the time to always ask for a second opinion for a serious problem. The medical field has gone from the horse and buggy days to high tech in the past 25 years, from the general practitioner to the specilist. Always check into the credentials of any doctor you are considering,  read to see if they have had malpractice suits against them, see if they are board certified. Check into their background of where they went to college, there are some "doctor mills" out there and alot of foriegn doctors that come here to make money fast. When dealing with life threatening problems do your research first, it will give you more confidence in the long run. If you have a friend that works at a hospital, ask them to recommend a doctor. I always knew the good from the bad when I was working. I always also told my friends to make a list of their questions and take it with them to appointments. When the doctor comes into the room , tell them about the list and read it to them, one thing at a time and get your answers. Don't be afraid or intimidated by him/her, ask why something is ordered, what it will show.  The better you are informed about what your body is telling you, the better you can discuss treatment with them. We put doctors on  high pedestals years ago and treated them like Gods, it is time that people reclaim their rights, as equals. We do this by making them work in partnership with us for our health.

When i was first diagnosed I had on the same day come across a medical article  "Ginger kills ovarian cancer cells"  I found the reseach paper and even thou the results are in the lab, countries that use alot of ginger in there diet have less ovarian cancer.  My cancer was Epithelian stage 3.  I started takeing 3000 mg pure ginger (tablets) daily. I will never scientifically know if it helped but after7 rounds IP
and 5 IV (Taxitere, and cisplatin)  I am at a CA125 of 2

I also cut out sugar, alcohol, and walk daily.  I will never know if it helped but I won't stop taking it.

If you want to read the article google Ovarian cancer ginger.

God bless

Great news with the CA125...it must be a relief to know that it's such a good marker for you. You'll be into the double didgits in no time...
This disease is so strange. When I had my recureence, I felt great - physically and mentally. I would have never known it was back. At my Dr's appointment last week, I had a woman who is on a fellowship examine me. She poked and prodded my tummy and says "do you have any symptoms right now?" I said no and she's like "well, that's good - obviously your chemo must be working". It took everything I had not to ask her what schoolbus she just fell off of - symptoms?? She obviously didn't know very much about ovarian cancer. She felt like even more of a schmuck when my CT scan showed my tumors had grown, not shrunk. These Dr's scare me sometimes.....!
Congrats to you...wishing you continued success!

Very interested in taking gingerroot. Found the article, thank you for sharing.  Just want to confirm that it recommends that we do a 3 day treatment periodically?  R u now taking them on a daily basis as well? (thought I read it somewhere in the forum)   I noticed the article has a list of products in capsule form and you are taking in tablet form.  do you think there is a difference? sorry if it's a stupid question but I'm getting a little blurry eyed and brain is not absorbing information.
