Another pelvic mass after ovary removed

by VickiD, Jun 23, 2003 12:00AM
My left ovary was removed about 15 years ago.  In 1996 I had a hysterectomy but the right ovary was left intact.  Last year in September a pelvic mass was discovered which stemmed from the remaining ovary.  Surgery to remove the mass included removing the ovary (mass was ~ the size of a "volleyball").  Now I am having symptoms similar to those I experienced before the surgery in September...pelvic pain (like menstrual cramps), abdominal swelling, lower back pain, feeling like I'm sitting on something.

I have an appointment with the surgeon, a gyno/oncologist, this week but while I'm waiting I would like to educate myself on what might be going on.  Is it possible to have ovarian cancer in my situation?     Although I have no remianing ovaries, could there still be cancer that originated from the ovary that was removed 6 months ago?

I have been on HRT since the surgery and have been diagnosed as having hypothyroidism, too.

I am writing to a vicki who had pelvic masses even after the ovaries had been removed.  I have the same problem and I am looking for some help...what was your diagnosis.  Or if anyone else is having the same problem let me know.
