Antybody been in Megace? Wondering what to expect

I have had the oophorectomy and now the pathology from DC came back as complex hyperplasia with no atypia, but concerning enough that my surgeon wants me on a 3-6 month course of Megace (progesterone) and then  most likely do a hysteroscopy to see if the Megace wiped out the hyperplasia.  I was soooo hoping to be over this crapp, but now this.  I am extremely thankful the pathology came back negative on the ovaries...but I was thinking I was over this and just needed to get used to the estrogen/progesterone replacement...now I have to stop the estrogen and deal with this uterine stuff.  Probably should have just had the hysterectomy.  So any feedback on what to expect from Megace would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks so much.  I did post on the ovarian cyst board also

Many of the threads talk about side effects and toxicity, etc, so they will probably be of more value to you, as I took it as an appetite stimulant while on TPN to gain weight back.  I believe it is more often used for breast cancer, so there are quite a few posts in the archives from that forum.  I hope you find what you are looking for.

Look into (ask) about Megace ES (http://www.megacees.com/megace-es.html) it's supposedly a better version of the original Megace with less dosage needed, etc.

My Onc put me on megace after my debulking surgery to help increase my appetite. I was mal-nourished from the cancer by the time I was dx.  I was on TPN at the hospital and then megace when I got home.  Believe me when I tell you that it will increase your appetite!!!! After my appetite came back I stopped taking it before I turned into the Good year Blimp!!!  I have only just begun to realize that this drug has more uses than just appetite stimulant.  ~~~~Joanne
