Anyone know a lot about PET scans?

Anyone know a lot about PET scans?

My mom had it done and:

By the colon/rectum somehting registered with an SUV of over 10 which is high....she had a colonoscopy and it turns out it was just inflammation.

The PET scan also showed hypermetabolic activity in one lymph node...SUV 3.2....they said it could be cancer or it could just be an inflamed lymph node.

Where her omentum used to be, a spot showed up on the PET scan with an SUV of 2.8.

Im afraid and was hoping someone can shed some light on this report.

By the way her CA-125 is 16.

Thanks for your help.

I had a PET Scan done first wk of February, and it showed me to be NED.... only to find 5 wks later the tumor was in fact still there.  PET Scan and CT Scans are not perfect, which my gyn/onc shared with  me after the fact.   Not to  frighten you, just to keep you educated.

Hi Carelyn,

Thank you for your response.  5 weeks later when they said the tumor was still there, do you know the SUV number in your report?

Also how are you doing these days?  I hope youre ok.

No the doctor did not say NED.  The doctor was pleased with the report though and was sure the colon uptake was an inflamation of some sort.

The lymph node 3.2 could be just an inflamation of some sort  but its that 2.8 bythe omentum that scares me.

True the numbers arent all that high.....and the CA-125 of 16 does look good. Butthe doctor says my mom will be continued to be monitored. No chemo for the time being.  The doctor did seem pleased andsaid some women have these scans and show uptakes all over the place.  She also said these little spots women can have for years before it turns into anything.  But again, each case is different...and Im very scared.  With the PET scan results, you think the doctor is right ina wait and see attitude?  Or would any of you insist on more treatments?

I thought the doctors thought your mom was with NED?  SUV numbers shows uptake of the sugars.  None of the numbers are incredibly high and the fact she inflammation in her colon, could be the reason the nodes are showing hot.  The SUV numbers pick up infection too.  What are the doctors saying?
