Are these signs of cancer?

During a recent yearly visit to my gyn, she pressed on my lower left abdomen and asked if I felt pain. There was a dull ache that I did not have on the right side.  It felt like I had a little gas pressure. I'm 62, with a history of breast cancer in the family. My mother died from uterine cancer at age 59. I have not had children. Because of this history, the doctor said that she would like me to get a pelvic ultrasound.  She did not say that she felt anything, and I did not think anything of it at the time. This was a new gyn ... forced because of the retirement of my previous one. I figured that she just was being cautious.  The pain is very dull, more like pressure than pain, never sharp pain.  It is mostly in my left pelvic area, but sometimes moves to right below my belly button. Intermittent back pain is toward left hip, but no more than I have had for years from sleeping in odd positions. I have no bloating, weight gain or weight loss... maybe a little pressure on my bladder.  I just don't know if  I have symptoms or if I am looking for them because I am so scared.  I've had a lot of stress in the last couple years, but that usually shows up in my shoulders, not my digestive system.  I am scheduled for the test this week (Tuesday), along with a bone scan and my yearly mammogram. I know that it is necessary and the only way to determine what's going on, but I want to be prepared .... I would appreciate any thoughts from anyone out there... are my symptoms indicative of ovarian cancer?

Hi,
Pain can be a sign of several things, or nothing but a strained muscle.

I'm glad that your doctor scheduled you for a pelvic ultrasound, did she also do a CA125 blood test?

It's good to get a baseline of that test, even if she doesn't suspect OVCA.

I was diagnosed in 2007 and my symptoms were: bloating, feeling full after a small amount of food, frequent urination and feeling that I had a UTI, and constant weight loss for several months.

Unfortunately, my internist kept dismissing my concerns, until my new GYN did an internal, felt a mass, ordered a CA125 and a trans vaginal ultrasound. Surgery and chemo followed.

I'm glad that your doctor is following up on your concerns, please let us know what the tests show.

Good luck,
Jane
