by LILLIAN577, Jun 19, 2009 08:45PM
man its only been 2 weeks since they drained 3 liters of fluid from my moms abdomen. And its back already. That really makes her feel uncomfortable. So today wasnt a good day. She looks so sad. But not scared of the oncoming surgery. She says shes not scared which is great. I just odont like the way she is looking. I wonder if theyll drain again on monday if the surgery is thursday?

If she has enough ascites to make her uncomfortable, then there is no reason why they would wait another 4 days to drain it.  If it's bad enough, then I'm not sure I'd wait until Monday; I'd go to the ER.  There is no reason for her to suffer when there is a way to make her feel more at ease.  The more uncomfortable she is, the less likely she is to eat and stay hydrated, which are important to make sure her body is ready for surgery.  Best wishes to you both.  She sounds like a very strong lady.  Lots of prayers and positive wishes are heading your way.

Hi-

Don't panic...everyone is different...Remember they were getting that much out of me on an almost daily basis even after the surgury and look how much better I'm doing now. But I do agree with Gail...If she is miserable she shouldn't suffer, take her in and have her drained again...we women are so conditioned not to complain, so she is very lucky to have an advocate who can objectively and matter of factly say what needs to be done. Hang in there. Although I'll be away next week (I'm going to GA Monday through Sat) I will be thinking of you.

Lots of love,
Christina

I agree with the ladies above.  There really is no reason for your mom to suffer like she is when there is something they can do.  It's only Saturday morning, she can't wait until Monday.  It's too long.  If I were you I'd take mom to the ER to get her some relief.

I too agree with the others. Get it drained so she feels better. Once the surgery is out of the way and she is started on the chemo, that should help considerably as the chemo will help get rid of the ascities. Hopefully she will not have to deal with this much longer.

Problem is 2 weeks ago they were only able to drain from one spot. The sono tech and radiologist that did the procedure they tried to see if they could do something for the other 3 abdominal pockets and couldnt. So they only drained from 1 spot. We were told at moffit to be careful who did the procedure cause she has alot going on in there. She seems ok today just tired and anxiosly awaiting the surgery

Hopefully on Monday the radiologist can drain that one pocket again and it will provide some relief before the surgery.
