Atypical Endocervical Glandular cells on Pap smear

Hello.  I am a 26 year old mother of an almost 2 year old.  My pap's have always come back normal.  This April when I went in for my normal yearly pap everything seemed to be okay.  The Nurse Practioner did her usual exam and nothing was uncomfortable and nothing seemed out of the ordinary.  She told me everything seemed great and she'd see me next April.  Well about 1.5 weeks later I get a phone call on my cell from her.  She told me my pap came back abnormal with "Atypical Glandular Endocervical cells" on it.  She really didn't give me alot of information about what this was.  She just said it was rare and not usually seen on pap's of girls my age and she wanted me to come in for a colposcopy to just check and see what was going on.  So she scheduled one for May 9th.  I went in May 9th for the procedure and it was very uncomfortable and painful after she was all done.  She went up into the beginning of my uterus and did a scraping which I'm thinking was the endocervical cutterage and then sprayed the vinegar solution in my cervix and a small patch of cells turned white so she took 3 biopsies.  It has been a very stressful time for me because I have been so worried about what the results would show.  But she called me on Friday (May 13th) and she said "Oh great news...the biopsies came back normal.  The pathologists are thinking that what they saw the first time was just inflammation and irratation."  So now I don't have to do anything but come back in 6 months for a check up pap.  I just am not comfortable with this answer at all.  I mean don't get me wrong...I want everything to be normal so I can have more children...I am only 26...but something just does not feel right with this answer.  Do you think I should get a second opinion?  How can the pap first show these "rare" cells and then they have to do all this testing and then "oh never mind, everything was normal?"  I just don't get this.

Please give me any advice you can....I'm so nervous!

Thanks,
MS

Hi There
first of all as this is an ovarian cancer forum
atypical endocervical cells is not associated with ovarian cancer

you had a good evaluation that was normal. The only other test that can be done is a con biopsy which is a bit more invasive biopsy that removes a portion of your cervix for pathological evaluation.

you should ask if you are HPV positive, if so you should egt another colposcopy with your next visit.

here is a link on general information on pap smears it is great

here is a link on AGC

basically it can be a serious problem 40% of the time and when the evaluation is normal, followup is important.

best wishes
