Aunts, grandma, grandma died from cancer and mom had cancer.

My grandma died from ovarian cancer and Aunts have died from breast cancer. My mom just got over cervix cancer. My grandpa died of cancer don't know which kind. My dad's grandma died from lung cancer. Do I have a high chance of getting any kinds of cancer. I've had some problems with my pap test. I had two biopsy's done and my doctor was going to take out some stuff while giving me a tubal tie up but changed her mind and wanted to wait a year. We did wait a year and whatever she found went away. I just worrie if I have a high chance because of my family history. Thanks Elizabeth:)

I know there is gene testing now that can be done to check for certain genes w/ percentages on breast cancer, do they have this also for all other cancers???

I will be looking into gene testing after i have my next child to decide which proactive steps to take. My mother is a BC survivor, double masectomy, different type of cancer in each breast. Her sister died from breast cancer and both her mother and my other grandmother have had it and survived. Moms mom passed recently from lung cancer and my dads mom is dieing of lung cancer (both smokers).

I have spoken in great detail w/ my husband and i will have gene testing and given my results and percentage, i may opt for elective masectomy w/ implants (always wanted the implants since im smaller than a A, but never did it for fear of hiding lumps detectable by hand or mamo....)

Anyways, just wanted to see if they had similar gene testing for other cancer chances???

You should deff go for genetic testing.  After my Mom's diagnose with ovca my obgyn suggested I get tested for the gene.  Even though Im young but its still good to know if you carry the gene.  Because my Mom is the only person in our entire family ever dx with cancer she has to go for testing first, then if she has the gene I will be tested.  In your case its different you have a huge family history with cancer therefore you should be very elegible (sp) for the testing.  We have Aetna I know they are very good with that, but you should call your insurance and ask how to go about for gene testing.  You should deff do it. Its important to know your genetics and what you carry for your sake and your kids.

This is what frightens me, my mother had cancer in one breast at age 29, and had masectomy, then at age 30 cancer in the other breast, both estrogen related, but both different cancers. Her sister (my aunt) died at age 40 from breastcancer. The other fam. members all had it older, but im terrified i will have the gene and have to make the decision to keep my breasts or not. Scary thought....which is why i still have not tested.

I would ask your dr for a referral to a genetic counselor.  Before you go to the genetic counselor, talk to your relatives and write down ALL the info about everyone you can trace: Grandparents, blood-related aunts/uncles, and first cousins.  You need to know: if they are alive now what age they are; if they have passed away what age they were when they died and what they died from; and for both those living and dead what type of cancer they had and WHAT AGE they were when diagnosed.

My mom was diagnosed with ovca at age 67, dad's sister was diagnosed at 76, and his other sister had breast cancer twice in her 60's.  The genetic counselors at Boston University told me I probably don't have the BRCA gene (which raises risk of breast/ovarian cancer as high as 45%), because in families with the BRCA gene they see cancers in women in their 30's and 40's.  Also, both my parents came from large families, I have dozens of first cousins, none of whom have had breast or ovarian cancer (also colon cancer seems to be somewhat related, no one had that either).

Your family seems to be prone to cancer.  You may want to consider removing your ovaries when you approach the age of menopause (45+), it will reduce your risk of both ovarian and breast cancer.  Of course, removing your ovaries has drawbacks as well so you'd have to weigh all the risks and benefits with your dr.

It's funny you said to ask my doctor about removing my stuff, My doctor already told I should and offered to do it. She knows all who's has died and everyone that has it in my family. Lets just say the women in my family do not live over the age of 35. I have three out of five aunts dead from cancer. Grandma and grampda are gone from it. My poor mom is fighting it. I'm feeling a bit sick in my tummy right now. I just got woke up I guess now I'm really freaking out. I'm to young to be scared but ever since my doctor found that stuff I have worried since. I'm not for sure if it's all in my head but I have cramps everyday all day and I always think something is like growing inside of me. Sex hurts and I bleed but my doctor just said I have a senative cervix. I'm not to sure what to feel as of right now today you know what I mean. I have kids and it scares me. Bad thing is I have valve diease as well it's called bicuspid AV+AI. I'm not for sure if stress can cause cancer if so I'll have it in a week. Well write back ok. Thanks Elizabeth:)
