Belching,Bloat

by Free Bird82, Oct 22, 2006 12:00AM
Hello.  First off, I am always very anxious. I went through an early menopause -done by 42. 3 yrs ago I had nausea daily for mos. I no longer have it. In the last 6 mos. I've had periodic bouts of bloat (gas) in my entire stomach (upper & lower), but more of just a feeling. I actually is worse when I have NOT eaten. I can still button pants. For three weeks, belching, but only when I push lightly on my upper belly do I actually belch. No real changes in BM's, actually very "healthy" looking (sorry). Went for an upper GI & Heida scan which came back normal. Upper GI Interpretation: Wide esophageal hiatus with occasional gastroesophagel reflux shown. Remainder unremarkable. I am now reading about belching & gas signs of ovarian cancer. I get annual pap's by gyno (last one in 6/06), mammogram ea. yr.-normal.Am not on any HRT or hormones. No family history of O.C. that I'm aware of. Have Hashimoto's Throiditis. Also, am lightheaded alot(not sure what that has to do with anything).  Question is if I should be concerned about this belching etc. I have heartburn once in a while, but not very often.  I went back to my Gyno 5 wks ago to ask questions & he just prescribed HRT for me saying he gave me an exam less than a mo ago and all was OK.  I AM NOT TAKING THE HRT.  Was only on birth control maybe 6 mos. total my entire life. Any help you can offer is greatly appreciated.  Your time and expertise is very valuable & very much appreciated. Thank you!

Hi There,
It is hard to say if your belching is related to your ovaries. The most common reason is reflux or the development of lactose intolerance. The fact that eating makes you feel better goes along with reflux. It is a really tough time of life when your body is changing in many ways and it is hard to know what is just normal aging. You could ask your gyn about an ultrasound of your ovaries if you have not had one.
best wishes

Oh yes, is 41-42 considered "early menopause"?  My last period was October of 2005 making me 41 yrs. old.  After one full yr and bloodwork to substantiate this, I am considered menopausal.  Thank you & I'm sorry for taking up time, I am truly concerned.

Hi there,
menopause , defined as no period for a year, can occur from early 40s to late 50's. Interestingly, the age of menopause seems to be hereditary. When did your mother have menopause?
take care
