Better Understanding of Results

My uterus was removed about 4 years ago, leaving just the ovaries, a couple of weeks ago I went to my doctors, because I felt very bloated and my eating habits haven't changed.  I excise and was gaining weight, she ordered a ultrasound, and I received a call that they found a mass and would have to go for an MRI.  My question, can someone explain with this means from the results.
Findings: In the left adnexa, there is a mixed cystic and solid mass measuring 14 x 11 x 5 cm with no internal vascularity. There is a thickened septum in the middle with the adjacent acentric solid component inferiorly with hyperechoic rim.  There are adjacent smaller cysts as well.  There is no free fluid in the cul-de-sac. What does this all mean.
Impressions:  Left adnexal complex cystic mass may be of ovarian etiology and is suspicisiou of ovarian neoplasm until proven otherwise -  I don't understand...

Hi There,
thank you for your question. You have developed a growth on your left ovary that measures 14 cm.
adnexa is a term that means in the area of the ovary and fallopian tube

this growth has solid areas and fluid areas which is called complex.

The bottom line is that this is an abnormal gorwth. It could be a benign tumor of the ovary or it could be a malignant tumor of the ovary.

The next step is surgery.

You should see a gynecologic oncologist for a consultation. In general, they are the most appropriate surgeon subspecialist to perform this type of surgery.

At the time of surgery after the ovarian mass is removed, it will be analyzed microscopically right then during the surgery. From that first evaluation which is called a "frozen section", the surgeon will know if the mass is malignant.

If this is a malignancy, then the standard surgery involves removing both ovaries and fallopian tubes and checking biopsies (called "staging" biopsies) to look for spread.

if this is a benign mass, some people would opt to prophylactically remove the other ovary and fallopian tube as well or if the other side is completely normal, to preserve it.

part of that depends on your age.
