Bilateral Ovarian masses

by lavender33, Apr 05, 2004 12:00AM
Recently I saw my doctor for infertility problems, I am a 33 year old female...he ordered an ultrasound just to get a look at my ovaries to see how everything looked.  I was sent for a CT scan after he found masses on both ovaries, (one 3 cm and the other 5cm) and said that they were hemmorhagic... my ovaries are also  enlarged and have multiple small cysts....I don't think this is PCOS...I am at my ideal weight..and do not have any of the symptoms....My gyn has told me that I will need surgery to remove the cysts...why is this neccessary if the masses are benign?  I guess this has to do with my infertility problems as well....can benign masses turn malignant?  I am also hoping that this will not result in the removal of my ovaries! Does the fact that these cysts are bilateral icrease the incidence of cancer...and how can a doctor tell from looking at a CT scan that the masses are benign???  Sorry for all the questions at once...but I probably have a million more!!!  Thank you!
