Birth Control Pills and cysts

by GaSis, May 10, 2003 12:00AM
I am 36 years old, two young children, and I have been on birth control (ortho tricyclen) for years.Today during a routine pap my doctor found my ovary to be swollen with a possible cyst. He wants me to wait eight weeks and be rechecked to make sure it goes away.  However, once I began to read the symptoms associated with ovarian cancer I seem to fit a lot of the categories.  Is it possible to get a cyst or even cancer while on the pill, and if not, then what other type of cyst could it be.  Should I look for any type of symtoms that I would need to call my doctor about in the next few weeks.  I have had spotting prior to my period for the last two months and a few bouts with severe abdomial (abdominal) cramping which stopped fairly fast ( I thought it was gas, but it wasn't.) Thank you for any information.
