Birth control pills and cysts

I am 24 years old, and about two years ago I had my right ovary, uterine tube, and fallopian tube removed.
My pathology report says I had a proliferating (borderline) serous tumor. The comment on the report says: The entire tissue was submitted and shows a focal area of proliferative activity. There is budding and tufting seen with occasional pseudostratification present. The histologic findings show low grade proliferative activity.
I had a surgery prior to the removal of the ovary to remove what they thought was a dermoid cyst, but the path. report came back showing that the cyst was actually a tumor. I saw an oncologist and he told me that what I had wasn't really cancer, but it wasn't really benign either.
Since the removal of my right ovary, I have yearly transvaginal ultrasounds to check my left ovary. With every u/s I have they find cysts on my left ovary even though I'm on birth control. So far, the cysts have resolved themselves. I am currently waiting 2 months to go have another u/s to see if a cyst has dissapeared.
My doctor has forbid me from using generic birth control pills because we think they caused me to have more cysts. From my understanding bcp are supposed to help prevent cysts. Does bcp affect cysts? I am thinking about changing from Ortho tri-cyclen to Ortho tri-cyclenlo. Could the lower dose of estrogen affect cyst growth one way or the other?

Go get another opinion for one thing; just to add to your knowledge base. From what I understood when I sat in for a meeting with a doctor and my friend who has a large cyst, is that birthcontrol is one of the best options for decreasing the chance of *developing* cysts - it has little or no affect on *already there* cysts. My friend was recommended to try a lower dose one, so maybe that is something to consider.

You might also want to consider booking an appointment for surgery *which usually doesn't indicate drastic measures but as a pre-emptive strike* and then meet with a specialist ASAP - they usually take forever to get in to see so you might as well book now. The surgery usually gives three options: poke a hole in cyst and drain fluid (for tests) or take a piece of tissue wall and test, or take the whole thing out. Talk with your doctor, research the internet, if near a universitry, maybe speak to someone in the medical department.
