Bladder involvement

I am wondering if any of you have had a bladder problem , Leslee has had several lymph nodes swell up, gone down now with Cipro, temp of 101,  normal now, cysto 5 weeks ago, clean, IVP yesterday, clean,  has pain when urinating, no blood, does not feel bladder is emptying, last Gemzar was not given, 2 weeks ago, counts were low, asked for and recieved nulasta, counts went up, had thrush  mouth and vagina, gone now, onocologist told her that her "abdomen and bladder were full of cancer", gave her pain pills and told her he would see her in 2 weeks. She is switching  onocologists now, going to the University of Iowa Cancer Center.  I do not know what to think at this time. There is no evidence of any spread on a CT  done yesterday. She is drinking fluids like crazy,  is taking Advil to relax the bladder.  Need some input from any of you that might have had this problem.

Marty - so sorry that you and Leslee are dealing with this.  If there are no visable signs of tumors near the bladder, then maybe it is not cancer related...could the problems be from chemo?

I have no answers, I wish I could help....just want you to know that both you and Leslee, as always are in my thoughts.

Love,
Pam

I wish I could have been more help!  It is so frustrating when things are happening and you can't get the information you need.  My gyn onc sent me to a urologist.  Maybe a urologist onc that is associated with your gyn onc can help.  When I had cancer on my liver my gyn onc was going to have a liver oncologist assist.  I hope this helps .... if not, sorry!  (hugs)

Sorrry my answer wasn't useful as I intended.  My point about the US was that they check the entire process from kidney through urether to bladder--not just the kidneys.  I was having the US myself because of an issue with my bladder as well but I guess you already know it won't help Leslee.  I wouldn't have mentioned it if I'd known you'd already considered that option..

I am really looking for more answers to this pressing problem before we go to Iowa City   her Kidneys are fine, it is her bladder that is causing all the problems, actually Leslee has 4 kidneys, due to a genetic defect, all four work and are fine.

Also, I would think a dedicated renal ultrasound might be a good idea.  I had one a few months ago and it takes a while because after they check your kidneys and bladder, they then hold the wand on a spot and wait to see urine pass from the kidney into the bladder.  They then do the same on the other side to see the other kidney pass urine.  This might be a good diagnostic tool for Leslee at this time.

I am so sorry that Leslee is going through so much pain!  I went on the internet to find out anything about ovca spreading to the bladder.  First of all, how can he be sure cancer is there if the CT was clear?  I would recommend a PetCT.  That's where they found the problem with my bladder and kidney.  I had a stent put in.  Something lit up a few months ago in that area with no activity.  Now whatever it is has slowed down the flow and shows activity (probably tumor).  The stent was painless to put in.  I felt uncomfortable for a few days (the feeling I had to go).  My kidney was in trouble and they caught the problem just in time.  I start cisplatin/taxol tomorrow and have heard it is hard on the kidneys.  I've also just completed gemzar and didn't have any problems with the bladder or maybe it did cause the problem.  I just finished up gemzar/carbo March 20 and my ca125 started to rise as soon as I finished.  Maybe this is not what Leslee has going on but I'd ask her new doctor about it.  The only way they found the problem was with a petct.  Hope this helps....Cindy
