Bleeding, no pain

Bleeding, no pain

I went to family doc for heavy bleeding with clotting.  After pelvic exam she found enlarged uterus, suspected fibroids and sent me for U/Sound.  U/Sound tech did regular U/S but then did vaginal ultrasound where she found cyst on left ovary.  Doc told me to go back in two months for another U/S.  Outside of heavy, prolonged bleeding (10 of last 16 weeks)I don't appear tohave any Ovac symptoms.  Though there is a strong history of breast cancer in my family. The doc put me on b/c pills to regulate bleeding, though I'm having some dark brown discharge, along with some red blood.  I've made an appointment with an OB/GYN for a 2nd opinion. Besides asking for a CA-125,someone mentioned getting an "Inhibin B" test.  Are those two tests I should insist on?  What if I meet resistance?  Is it routine to have a vaginal u/sound when fibroids are suspected?  Thank you for any advice or past experience.

It is my understanding that abnormal bleeding is not normally considered a symptom of ovarian cancer.  You do seem to have the classic symptoms of fibroids - heavy, prolonged periods.   Other symptoms of fibroids include intermittent bleeding, abdominal swelling, a frequent need to urinate, and abdominal pain.  These symptoms are much like those of severe endometriosis.  Some fibroids can be seen on ultrasounds.  I have a very small fibroid on the back of my uterus that was discovered during my recent surgery and it did not show up on the ultrasound.  A woman should always advise her ob/gyn specialists of any family history of ovarian, breast, or colon cancer.
