Bleeding after menopause

Hello everyone, I was recently diagnosed with Hyperthyroid, and put on methimazole. I am 53 and have not had a period in 10 years. One reason they finally checked my thyroid was because of loosing 20lbs in 3 months. I am finally starting to gain it back but have since started having some vaginal bleeding could this be caused by the, meds or weight loss. Will be calling my Gyno on Monday. A little scary because my sister passed away 10 years ago of ovarian cancer. I am checked yearly and recently had a vaginal ultrasound that showed everything was fine.

I agree. Post-menopausal bleeding is much more common than most women realize and is usually nothing serious. However, 10 years out is unusual BUT I suspect it is related to your thyroid disorder. The thyroid is a big player in the menstrual cycle so you may have had an underlying thyroid disorder that caused your periods to stop 10 years ago. Now that your thyroid is being regulated via meds, your body is returning to "normal" function. Depending on how recently you had an ultrasound, another may be needed.

Many women have a periods after menopause especially after stress. If an ultrasound showed everything is fine I would not worry. Calling your Gynecologist is a good idea. If you were throwing up all the time with weight loss I would worry.
