Book Title: Ovarian Cancer Journeys

Sorry, don't know how to underline the title up there.

My mother likes to give me copies of articles. Today's pickin's? An article about a lady named Ayala Miron and her book called Ovarian Cancer Journeys. She was misdiagnosed for years and did eventually get a diagnosis of Stage 3 cancer.

Has anyone read this yet? It was written up in Prevention magazine last year (6/05).

My question: I'm not sure of people's ethnicity based upon their names (my last name is my husband's; he's the Italian, I'm the mix of Polish and other stuff.) With this lady's name, is she Jewish and I ask that because I've read that Jewish ladies have a greater tendency for this cancer. Is this true for our friends here?

I looked up this book on Amazon and some of the blurbs say 90% of those diagnosed do NOT have it in their families.

I guess I'm trying to get a feel for whether or not I fit the mold.

Even though I'm pretty sure I don't have cancer, I just feel really weird lately, like the symptoms keep "matching". If I could cross one more symptom off the list........

sigh.

Bloatedly yours,
Suzanne :-)

I'm in a low risk group: 1. use of oral contraceptives 2. years of not ovulating 3.  tubal ligation and I'm still in the group. From my research I've come to the conclusion that ovarian cancer is still a "newby" in the research world and not much is really known about risk groups, survival rates, and treatment modalities.  I think we're better off than women were 20 or more years ago, but we're still an experimental group.

Nodding, yes, that is me as well. Use of BC pills for years, had the tubal, have had kids, etc.

But I have the symptom angle of it, the bloating, constipation, bladder urgency, etc.

The latest thing I read was that women who were sedentary were at higher risk: those who watched tv or read books. Oh myyyy, I have a ton of books around here and now I have to feel guilty?!

Maybe if I didn't READ this stuff, hahaha.
