Borderline malignancy

i was diagnosed with a left ovarian cyst. i had my operation. my left ovary and left fallopian tube were removed. on my biopsy, the pathologies said that my ovary has a mucinous borderline malignancy, definite stromal invasion is absent. they are noted some variable atypia. In the ovarian fluid, it said that there is no evidence of malignancy...

My OB/GYN says that my right ovary, right fallopian tube and uterus are normal and there's is no sign of lymp nodes..

My OB/GYN also diagnosed that my right ovary has a small cyst... i will undergo an every 6months checkup...

can you help me... i dont understand some medical terms here.. do i need to undergo a chemotherapy?

I suggest you see a Gyn/Oncologist regarding what you need to do, given this diagnosis.  They are the experts in dealing with women's issues and you want the best treatment available.  Tell the OB/Gyn that you want a referral and you want it now.  good luck, keep us posted

Typically a borderline or LMP tumor does not require chemotherapy, unless it has spread (stage 3 or 4) and then it is questionable how effective it is any way. Your sounds like a stage 1A, confined to one ovary and surgery is the only treatment. Most gyn/oncs like to do some follow-up, every 4 to 12 months depending on the doctor. The good news is that borderline or LMP tumors are slow growing and have low chance of recurrance (say 10%). A second opinion from a gynocologic oncologist is a good idea as well as a second opinion on the pathology, just to be sure. Did you have a CA-125 test prior to surgery and was it elevated? Hi agree with Casey.  I had serous borderline LMP stage 1.  Only surgery was required.  I had a second opinion done on the pathology to be sure as borderline pathology is a little tricky.  It's a good idea to consult with a gyn-onc (not just a gyn) as well.  I had follow-ups every 6mos for 5 yrs and have had no recurrence.  I also opted for a full hysterectomy about a 1 and 1/2 after diag.  - just to be sure.
