CA 125 = 231 other weird stuff

I am 51 y.o and no kids.  In July, I began having periods after no periods for about 10 months.  I had gone off ferrous sulfate because the FSH in April said I was post-menopausal.  The period I had in August was unusually heavy and long-lasting.  I went to my PCP and got blood work done.  Of course, I was low on the hemoglobin, etc., but the CA 125 test came out at 231 and the doctor immediately referred me to a gyn.

I've had 2 sonograms and my fibroid got larger in the past 1-1/2 years since my last sono, but everything else was stable.  I have Nabothian cysts on an ovary and my uterus has been enlarged for several years.

Thing is, I've been feeling very fatigued even though I resume ferrous sulfate 5 weeks ago.  I had another period which againwas painful with heavy bleeding and lasted 7 days.  I also feel nauseous a lot.  Today I noticed a swelling where my right leg meets my torso.  Also, the left side of my neck is sore.  Did I just sleep wrong?  I'm waiting on results of 2nd CA 125 done last Tuesday, but am wondering if I should just check myself into a hospital and get it all removed.  Please help.

What does your gyn recommend?   Have you had other imaging or tests? It is quite likely that you are suffering the effects of a number of gynocologically related issues ranging from cysts to fibroids to endometriosis to perimenopause, and you need more information before you make a decision on the next step.   As we have just advised Starangel777 elsewhere on this forum, the decision to have surgery should not be taken lightly, and the best advice is to seek the services of a gyn oncologist should there be any indication of possible malignancies.

Thank you so much for your response.  My gyn said the CA 125 of 231 was high even for fibroids.  I brought up the issue of a hysterectomy, I think, because my symptoms are affecting my life/job.  He said he would not do the surgery without a gyn/oncologist.  I am just waiting for him to call and tell me if I need to go to the hospital right away.  My mother in Ohio is waiting with her bag packed to fly out here since I have no family here (Tucson).

Oh yeah, my gyn said he would have to do an abdominal surgery because I've never had children and my cervix would not be able to dilate enough for a lap-thingie.  Maybe because I already have an abdominal scar from previous surgeries (one of which was for a large dermoid cyst when I was 17).
