CA 125 question

by plady, Mar 02, 2007 12:00AM
I've been wondering about something that may seem like a dumb question, but I'll ask it anyway.  If you have cancer somewhere else in your body, like lung cancer or breast cancer will you CA 125 number go up like it does in ovarian cancer?  Will the CA 125 predict other cancers?

I think CA125 is only for OVCA but if the OVCA has spread to other parts of the body the CA125 will rise if that has been a good marker and was elevated when you were diagnosed.

I don't think new primary cancers will show an elevated CA125. But if I am wrong please correct me.

Thanks

I've read that CA-125 can be elevated for other cancers too, not just OVCA. I read a story about a breast cancer survivor. The Ca-125 is what caught her OVCA. She didn't realize she was at higher risk for OVCA because of her breast cancer. It can also elevate because of endo, or any kind of infection.
