COULD I HAVE Ovarian Cancer??? PLEASE HELP

Hi I am very scared as I am only 25 and  I have a 2and 3 yr. old. It started 3 weeks ago I started having feelings ONLY on right side around ribgae and it felt like when your pregnant and baby is moving around--it came and went through the day(not constant) for a week then it stopped and I started feeling like something was stuck on my RIGHT ribcage(this never went away it was constant) That lasted about a week as well now when that went away Inow have bad back (especially low back) pain and mild cramps but the cramps only get bad at night for some reason. My doctor signed me up for an ultrasound of gallbladder. but that was before he knew of it going away and now having the back pain and cramps he doesnt know of those symptoms yet. I dont have insurance so I am looking on here for some guidance---please tell me if you think this sounds like O.C or a O. cyst---but everything I have found I cant find anyone thats had ALL my symptons at once---could they not be connected?  PLEASE HELP

I would certainly have your gallbladder checked.  I had mine out on June 26, 2006 after six months of diagnostic procedures.  My journey began in early Feb. with a trans/vag ultrasound.  They found some tiny fibroids and free fluid in the cul-de-sac.  I then had an abdominal & pelvic CT scan.  They found kidney stones, confirmed fibroids and free fluid.  I then had a gallbladder ultrasound.  No stones or abnormalities visible.  I then had endoscopy/colonscopy.  They found and removed polyps-upper and found an ulceration in my stomach.  The doctor prescribed med. to heal the ulcer and gave me an antispasmodic to try.  This entire time I was experiencing pain under my right rib.  It initially began on my left.  I descibed it as a squeezing/spasming discomfort that seemed almost constant.  Because I didn't have the classic gallbladder symptoms I felt like people thought I was crazy. My mother and sister both had the classic gallbladder attacks, stones, removal.  It was a hide-a-scan test in eary June that indicated the gallbladder wasn't functioning properly at a rating of 20.  The doctor suggested surgery for gallbladder removal.  I am still experiencing the under the rib pain periodically however.  I do control this by eating a low-fat diet.  I am also anemic, which seems to explain the incredible fatigue. My theory is a possibility of Sphincter of Oddi Dysfunction.  Throughout this ordeal I have had many symptoms that accompany ovarian cancer.  Abdominal swelling, left arm and leg numbness, incredible fatigue, frequent urination, digestive disturbances.  Hence, that is where my quest began. I must mention that eight years ago I had an ovarian dermoid cyst spontaneously rupture and presented to the ER with peritonitis.  This is a very rare occurrence. Trust your instincts, pray for wisdom and support, be persistent.  I still don't have all of my answers for feeling like this.  I go back to the gasto on Sept. 7th. As the mother of two young girls myself, I want my health back and must remain faithful.  Don't be fearful.  You are wise to seek knowledge and help here.

Please let us know if you have difficulty locating a gyn/onc.  Unfortunately, some of our ob/gyn's aren't so good at either locating them, or referring us to them.  If we knew why that was the case, we'd be in better shape.  Having said that, please know that there are more and more teaching hospitals as well as cancer centers who DO NOT require a physiscian to do the referral...we can self-refer! Don't forget that our gyn/onc's are men and women who receive the additional training to deal with cancers of our reproductive organs.  They do not deliver babies.

Gail's right on target in saying that a biopsy is necessary for a diagnosis.  Do it right the first time and see a gyn/onc.  Please keep us posted as to how you're doing.
peace,
Anne

If memory serves me correctly, the mesentery is a piece of tissue that connects the intestines to the inside of the body wall.  The omentum is the "fat pad" in the abdomen that protects the organs.  Ovarian cancer CAN spread to these areas, but a CT visualizing a thickening of them isn't enough to say you have it.  Do you have any other symptoms?  Gas, indigestion, heavy feeling in the abdomen, irregular bleeding, distended abdomen?  These same symptoms can be caused by a benign cyst, as well, but your best bet at this point is to see a gynecological oncologist.  If you need a referral, at least get in to see a gynocologist.  There is no way to tell if you have ovarian cancer without a biopsy through surgery, so the quicker you find out what's going on in there, the better.  Best wishes to you.  If you feel up to it, please keep us informed on what you find out.

Would someone please explain to me what thickening of the mesentery is and how it might be related to ovarian cancer?
A recent CT revealed a thickening of the omentum/ or mesentery. The ER doctor told me that it could possibly be ovarian cancer, but I have not been able to find anything about this on line.

Hi there, your symptoms don't scream ovarian to me. I think you are on the right track getting your gallbladder evaluated. Pain under the ribcage is up pretty high to be associated with an ovary.

Welcome to the site.  Although 99% of ovarian cysts are benign, you do need to get medical attention.  You need to have a vaginal ultra sound so that the dr. can see what is going on in there.  If at all possible, please try to see a gyn/onc. They are specialists and have seen it all.  Also, check with your local dept of social services and see about getting aid.  You really should not ignore this.  Please keep us posted.  You are in my thoughts and prayers.  Godspeed
