Caelyx/Avastin

Hi everyone,

I have the option of having a second chemo of Caelyx on its own or having it with Avastin (first chemo was Taxol and carboplatin). Avastin seems to have potentially serious side effects. Has anyone already had this treatment and how did you get on with it? I find it really difficult to way up the pros and the cons. The doctors here in France seem to think that as I'm young(ish) and otherwise 'healthy' thats its better to blast me with the strongest drugs. I'm not too sure.......

Thanks

The latest research seems to indicate better response rates when Avastin is added to current chemo regimens.  There is even consideration of adding Avastin to the gold standard Carbo/Taxol regiment.

I agree with your dr. I can just tell you what I have had for the past 3 yrs.
6 cycles of Carbo+Taxol (IP and IV ) worst side effect, will stay in bad for 3-4days
12 cycle of Taxol only (IV) maintainace, much easy to tolerate.
remission for 15 month.
5 cyles of Carbo+Gemza (IV) not bad at all.worst is 24-72 hrs after chemo, all the side effects are manageable.
just had  Doxil which is same as Caelyx + Avastin yesterday, my feeling is very similar or easier to tolerat than Carbo+Taxol.  Nurse also told me the same. The reason is because Avastin is an antibody(fully humanized), not a chemo(synthesized chemicals). The side effect is minimal compare to the other chemos. most atypical ones is high blood pressure.  It is just my thoughts may not your choice. everyone is different. You should decided which one you want to take. Hope it helps you make decision.

Peace and Love
