Can Doxil cause fingernail discoloration?

Can Doxil cause fingernail discoloration? Over the past 2 weeks,  I have developed a thin, vertical, asymmetrical black discoloration originating from the base of my ring fingernail. It started as a pinpoint at the base of the nail underu  the cuticle area. It seems to have grown quickly over the past 2 weeks to 4 mm in length. It is dark black at the base of the nail and lightens to a grey as it extends to the widest part which is 2 mm. No pain and no trauma. A google search points to the possibility of a subungual melanoma. Of course I am hoping for this to be a side-effect of chemo. Any insights?  I have had 6 monthly Doxil treatments. Thanks so much for all that you do for us!

Hi there,
yes i do think doxil/ caelyx can cause nail discoloration. I have seen it with my patients as well.  The other thing I think about is fungus - especially on the toes. You should check in with your doctor to be sure.
take care

I had exactly the same thing when i was on Caelyx (Doxil) earlier this year. Happened to my toes too. I showed it to my oncologyst and she didn't comment so i assume it wasn't of concern. i think i also read somewhere that this is a side effect so i don't think you need to worry too much. Just show it to your onc next time.
