Cancer is back...

I had a PET/CT  scan that showed 2 lesions: one about 2.3 cn by 2cm another one smaller, 1cm and high activity throughout pelvis. After having an MRI it was confirmed that the cancer is back -had original diagnosis Jan 2004 -OVCA stage 2b grade 2. This came about a routine exam and was quite a shock to me -my CA125 was 8 in Nov, it is now 28 (still normal?) I'm seeing the doctor on Tuesday to discuss treatment. What is the standard treatment for this recurrence -would they remove the lesions surgically and then start the chemo? or would it be straight chemo? If it is straight chemo, how would they know if it's working since my CA is normal?

When I recurred with a liver tumor my CA was 12. (At diagnosis it was in the high 900's.) Following initial surgery and treatment it bounced between 5-9 for 2-1/2 years so when it went out of single digits I knew something was brewing. Sure enough a CT Scan found the cancer. My doctor removed it surgically and explored other areas. He couldn't visibly find any other cancer and biopsies came back negative. In my humble opinion, I think removing as much as the tumor as possible gives chemo the best chance to work. Now, he wants my CA to stay below 9.  Anything above that and we'll start looking for trouble.
