Hi Ovarian cancer runs bad in my family for about 5 months now I have had bad lower back pain my periods are for about 15.days or longer I will stop for a few day then start again or spot after sex and some times get sharp pain on right side that goes down my leg should I be worried about this
You should ask your doctor about seeing a genetic counselor to go through a family tree for medical problems. There are certain cancer family syndromes.
For women with 2 or more first degree family members with ovarian cancer, that is a reason to consider the surgical prophylactic removal of the ovaries and fallopian tubes. There is a gene testing for two gene mutations associated with ovarian cancer: BRCA1 and BRCA 2. The genetic counselor can counsel you as to whether it is appropriate for you to get these tests.
As for your current symptoms, they are pretty nonspecific. You should see your doctor for a good physical exam. Your doctyor can then decide if any other tests are needed
I hope you feel better!
