Chasing the Cancer Answer

This replayed on CBC in Canada today.  The commentator is Wendy Mesley, a CBC reporter, who was diagnosed with breast cancer. Frustrated by responses she received, she started to research cancer, and this is the resulting documentary.  She says the standard "eat your veggies, don't smoke, exercise" mantra blames the patient and that the real culprit is, of course, all the toxins in our environment.  Consumers need to be made aware of what are carcinogens and what products contain them.  For example, the pill apparently is now known to be cancer causing (news to me), if it is started young and it is taken for more than 8 years.  I was on it to supress ovulation and prevent cysts though.  Wish you guys could have seen it, but here is the link.

Hi Katie,

That darn pill. It's that doggone progestins (I know I am repeating myself, but again, not Progesterone) mixed with the estrogen, all synthetic. (More on that in a sec)

The environment, the hormones put in dairy products, meats, etc...the electric wires so close to homes...geez..

I was reading Dr. Uzzi Reiss's book last night ( I am thinking of getting the new book about screen actress Ava Gardner and then maybe I can read something other than a book on hormones:)) and the information on the pill/cancer/estrogen and even some of the good effects of the synthetic estrogens (even tho there are still bad side effects) and how the progestins that have to be mixed with it messes up the good effects. The discussion was not only about the pill, but about synthetic HRT. You would be utterly fascinated with the information in that book. I know I push Northrup's book and I still will, but I would recommend supplementing it with Reiss's work. I might even recommend supplementing that with a work on Ava Gardner eventually :)

The discussion lead to comments about natural (bioidentical) progesterone of course. But, I have to tell you, it was unreal. ...and how the studies that have been controlled by the big companies that put out the non-bio stuff are biased and that information is often "selected" to make their products stand out. Many doctors don't know the difference between Progestogens and progestins and the real thing, the progesterone. Then the doctors get bombarded with advertising/magazines/reseach info that is presented by the pharmaceutical companies that is only going to highlight the good stuff...Cannot patent the other stuff so many studies have gone by the wayside.

Oh, there were some cool comments in the book about the effects of broccoli/cabbage/califlower and the protection it gives against breast cancer...and can help even if one has the disease already. There was also talk about how the great killer for women is heart disease, but that this does not get much attention. This all lead back to the Bio's and the good effects of bio estrogen and bio progesterone as far as protective measures against heart disease after menopause.

I better stop. I tried to go on the chat room we have referenced. I was hoping to go in under Mary 53 but ended up putting my Email address which is fine, but did I goof something up? I mean, would you all know it is me? I tried to access the site but as soon as I tried to sign in I got kicked off line and I was told that my AOL was in trouble and that I might have to RE-Install AOL. I restarted the computer and didn't have to reinstall anything...but, I am a bit skittish tonight and I will try to get on again tomorrow or Monday. I love the idea of the boards, I just got a bit overwhelmed I guess.

Goodnight all. My baby doggie (nine years old!) had a cyst that was checked yrs ago and was fine but recently grew like crazy and I took her in last week, but the good news is that she is still fine. Whew. We (her sister dog, the 10 yr. old and I)went for two walks today in beautiful Minnesota. Mary

Ok...I sound a bit rebellious tonight, don't I?

Hi Katie,

Okay, I appreciate the words of encouragement about getting on the new site for chatting. My neighbor/good friend is coming over tomorrow to help with some computer stuff. She has pulled me out of many jams. Last year when I went to renew my anti-viral subscription, I somehow screwed up so badly that I ended up losing my AOL and all my stuff...old mail, etc. I did manage to hang onto my address book somehow. My friend and I were quite certain that my old emails were stored for me but we had to wait to investigate that, so my friend suggested I wait for her to call AOL and find out where we should put the old emails...I get a bit confused on the details, but I sooo trust my friend. Anyway, when beloved daughter(who has her own laptop)was home at Christmas, she decided to clean up Mom's computer (what happened to just cleaning your ROOOOOM???) and somehow deleted that huge file. She said it was empty, and so I have given her benefit of the doubt (along with a little lecture about NOT touching Momma's computer files) but it was a weird folder to begin with so there went, possibly, three years of special emails from my account, and hers too. Anyway, my friend is going to help me renew my anti-viral stuff and I will have her peek at the message board just so I feel more confident. Pictures and all, eh? (My grandfather's family lived in Canada) WOW, cool. We will have to include pics of our pups.

The Ava book I am going to get got rave reviews in "The New York Book Review" and it is called AVA GARDNER "Love is Nothing." By Lee Server. St. Martin's Press. $29.95. I love biographries, too...I prefer them to fiction.

Congrats on doing the tape. I kept trying to talk myself into going into my basement tonight to hop on my rebounder or to do some stepping. But, I did not make it. The two walks will have to do for the day. But, like you, I feel so much better when I get in that aerobic exercise session. You'd love the rebounder. Once I get on that thing it is hard to stop sometimes. GREAT for the lymphatic system. Don't get me started on the lymphatic system. Geez I'm weird, huh???
'Night, Mary
