Chemo options??

by dunga, Jun 29, 2004 12:00AM
Hello,
my mother was first diagnosed with OVCA in 09/02.
debulking operation was 10/02. Andenocarcinoma,
pallary serous type, poorly differentiated Stage
III. Ascending colon resection ,sigmoid colon
resection 64 years old. 6 treatments of taxol/carb
Decide on Taxol maintenance. After two months
routine blood test and CTscan reveal right kidney is
enlarged. Blood pressure is also starting to trend
upward. Decide on stints to control the kidney.
Stents changed twice in six months. More CT scans
and a renal scan shows blocked ureter (tube from
kidney to bladder). Possible adhesions preventing
the flow. First of this month June a nephrostomy is
inserted to drain the kidney and an operation is
scheduled to repair the ureter that the adhesions
have attached to.
Operation was June 28th. The surgeon found the lower
intestine had mets on three different places cut
that out and resected. And further looking revealed
mets throughout some plum size. So much adhesion he was never able to even get to the kidney area or to view other organs liver etc...Before first initial surgery my mothers CA125 was 225, after treatments 12-14 and has remained low, with no or
only slight symptoms. We knew from the onset that
the CA125 would not be a good variable in the
picture since the pre-op count was low.  So more scans
were ordered. But the adhesions may have blocked
most of the onset on new mets. If it were not for
this kidney repair operation we would have never
have know of the new mets. Can you give me some of your   options on treatment after recovery.
