Chemo?

by JFD, Apr 27, 2003 12:00AM
I'm 45...had a total hysterectomy (and lymphectomy) 3 weeks ago after my Dr. found a pelvic mass with ultrasound tests.  Here's what the lab report reads: Postop Diag: Adenocarcinoma of the ovary, grade 2 endometrioid with squamous cell type, with no gross evidence of malignancy outside the ovary and uterus.
He's recommending chemo even though he says that can only increase my odds of reoccurrance by maybe 5% or so. What I'm wondering is how devestating is chemo to the body?  How long does it take to recover from the treatment.  I know I"ll get these and more answers once I get my appt. with the chemo clinic.  But in the  meatime, I'm scared, anxious and uncertain as to what all this will mean. I'm a self-employed freelance photographer and of course my income has dropped off since the hysterectomy as I'm not strong enough to work.  My husband doesn't make much but has good medical (thank GOd!).  Is there any kind of financial assistance I can apply for or utilize while I'm going thru this to help pay my bills?
Overwhelmed,
Jody
