Comment about problems

hello, ladies. i am just writing a post because i went to the doctor's yesterday and found out that my low back pain and left leg pain is sciatica and i probably have a herniated disc. i thought this pain was due to my thickened endometrium and a possible polyp. i am scheduled for a d&c and hysterscopy for march 6. and now i have to go for a MRI on Monday. my doctor said that because of the pain getting worse and lasting over a month, that if it really out of place, then i will have to have back surgery. this year is not starting off to good one for me. i have endometrial hyperplasia, polyp, and now a back problem. my back problem happened because i was at my neighbor's house in dec. and her front steps were icy and they did not put nothing down and doom there i go. i feel and hit my back right against her steps. i am sorry i am talking off the subject but i am just upset and nervous and needing to tell someone. i have heard some bad things about back surgery. has anyone had to have back surgery? thanks for listening and any comments.

You poor thing, let me give you a virtul ((((hug)))).  I had sciatica when I was pregnant with my daughter (got stuck taking clothes out of the washer and dh had to pull me out!!) & it kicks up now and again, but no surgery.  I will pray that there is an alternative to back surgery for you.  Good luck and let us know how the MRI goes.

Csue, I too have a herniated disc.  Down low at I believe L2.  It's not terrible big (6cm at last MRI which has been about 1 1/2 years ago.)  I haven't had surgery.  I believe as a result of my lying around on my back and sitting in a cushy chair for the past two weeks post-op for my cyst, my disc has begun to press on my tailbone.  It isn't causing pain but makes my butt numb and I'm having alot of trouble getting comfortable sitting.  I'm having to sit in a straight, hard chair with a small lumbar pillow to push my spine forward and get the pressure off my tailbond.

My husband had disc surgery last year which was somewhat successful although he still has numbness in his leg and sometimes pain.  I'd consider surgery the absolute last resort.

As for your MRI, don't know if you've had one before, but it's really not a big deal.  I'm somewhat claustrophobic and as long as I close my eyes and keep them closed, I'm fine.  Listen to music and relax and you'll be fine.

Hope this helps....I find that just seeing someone else's experiences that are similiar to your own is helpful.

Big hug out to you.
