Complex Cyst

I recently found out I have an 8cm complex cyst on my right ovary.  The doctors found it while doing a CT scan for some colitis problems I was having related to a bacterial infection of the colon.  I didn't even know it was there as I didn't have any symptoms.  They did an ultrasound and found no other cysts or masses and no buildup of fluid.  My GYN said it didn't appear to have "characteristics" common of cancer, but did run the CA-125 tests.  All came back negative, but I won't know for certain if it's benign or malignant until I have surgery to remove it.

I've got a follow up ultrasound this Thursday to see what it's doing (if anything) and my doctors will schedule surgery as soon as my treatment for a superficial blood clot has ended (I got the clot from being in the hospital from the colitis problem--yes, I know, it's like I'm falling apart).

Never had any health issues, I'm 39 years old and it good shape.  Needless to say, the whole situation has me freaked out--it's all I think about.  My understanding is that it's possible to have complex cysts that are medium to large and still be benign.  Wondering if anyone out there has had a similar experience or knows of someone who has.

Thanks for your response--this is what I'm hoping for--simply something big and ugly, but benign.  I've heard that some of these things can even have stuff like hair and teeth in them!!  I believe they are "dermoid" cysts.  It's amazing what our bodies can do.

Complex cysts can be large and still be benign.

A woman at my job had a 3POUND complex ovarian cyst removed from her ovary a few weeks back. When she picked up her shirt you could see the thing poking through her stomach. It was so odd. It ended up being benign though.

MickiVicki (a woman on here) had a huge complex cyst that I believe was 15 cm (I think)and very scary looking on her scans and hers was benign as well.
