Complex Ovarian Cyst Treatment

HI! I have been having somewhat severe abdominal pain for the past 8 days. I had a CT scan showing "a rounded area of fluid attenuation 3.4 x 2.6cm. Subtle internal enhancement with apparent internal septations. May represent complex ovarian cyst. I have also lost a great deal of weight. I was breastfeeding so I attributed it to that. But lately I have also just been so tired and "just not right". I also have not had a period since having my baby 7 months ago but I began bleeding (heavy at times) this past Sunday. I am growing concerned that something more serious is wrong. The pain is just not getting any better but my doctor does not seem overly concerned. I actually had to push to have the ultrasound done sooner. I am having the ultrasound done tom. My question is ...if it turns out to be a "complex ovarian cyst" what is the next step? What should my doctors be doing for me? Is cancer a concern with these types of cysts? Thanks for any help!

Cancer is always a 'concern'; however, cysts are  much less likely to be malignant.   While some types of simple cysts can form and then resolve as part of the normal monthly function of the ovaries, a complex cyst will require further study.   Unfortunately, as you have likely read in other posts in this forum, the only way to be certain that a cyst is benign or malignant is to remove it and send it to the pathologist.
