Complex cyst in ultrasound

by Lunita, Nov 03, 2005 12:00AM
Hi. I am 28 years old. I had my right ovary removed in march due to adhesions and endometriosis. However my concern is:
I just received the results of my ultrasound. This ultrasound was ordered by my doctor because I am in a lot of pain (left side, like burning sensation), and because my OBGYN felt a cyst on my checkup. My ObGYN is out of the country and I am really nervous because I don't understand the result.
It says that the ovary measures 5.1X5.3X3.7 cms. There is a complex cyst with septation within the left ovary. Two possible soft tissue projections are seen within these cysts measuring 1.8X1.6X0.4 cm and 1.7X1.6X0.9cm. Increased flow is seen by colour doppler around the left ovary. The Opinion explains that it may be an endometrioma or hemorragic cyst, and it explains that because of the size and appearance follow-up in less than 6 months is recommended.

My concern is that this is the third ultrasound since july; and the ovary is bigger every time. It started measuring around 2 cms in july. Also, in the second ultrasound that I had done in august, they mentioned the possibility of a complex cyst and recommended follow-up. So this third ultrasound is already the follow-up. I am in extreme pain all day long, and as I said, I am a bit anxious because I don't know what all these terms and results mean.

I would really appreciate any information you can give me regarding all this, I am really worried.
Thanks!

Lunita

Given that you do have endometriosis, it is quite likely that you have an endometrioma on your ovary.
