Complications after IIC diagnoses

by faithinsurviving, Jul 09, 2007 12:00AM
Hi
My mother was diagnosed with IIIC on 6/18/07, since her surgery she has had severe naseau, vomiting, fever, and no appetite, and fatigued, and again has retained about 6-8 lbs of water weight in 4 days, she als ohas high BP.
She is now back in the hospital with a creatinine level of 3.1, and she is a tiny woman. The urologist keeps saying she has no blockage to her kidneys however the ER physicians that admitted her last night say there is a blockage and requseted this urologist to run many test which he will not complete. We are not getting any answers as to why her right kidney is functioning at only 25%, and there are recent issues with her left kidney that they say were not present in June. Has anyone had these same problems and  if so how were they managed. ANy advice on these issues is greatly appreciated. THey have mentioned a shunt in her back and want to begin chemo asap. this is all very frustrating. She jsut saw her oncologist lat Friday for the first time, and he stated her cancer is very aggressive. No CA-125 was done pre or post op. We have no idea what is going on! Is it possible that the cancer has spread to her kidneys and they missed it in surgery?

Pin the onocologist down and tell him/her you want answers. If no answers  get a different onocologist. 25% kidney function is not acceptable,  Advocate for your mother, she is probably too sick to get direct answers, and you need them fast and correct. Fire the urologist and get one that willl take care of the kidney problems. she will need to start her chemo ASAP,  did you get to see the surgery report, if not ask for it and all the tests that were run.  those reports belong to you.  Good Luck and keep us posted .

To: Ureter Stents
Im confused, my mom was taken in to have a ureter stent put in her left ureter, the urologist informed us that her loss of kidney function is from compression on her ureter it is non surgical problem, they went ahead and put in the stent, he did not say it was tumors but I believe that is what is going on. HE did say her Oncologist would be coming in to talk to her. What else could be compressing on her ureter. And her original problems after her debulking surgery were with her right kidney this is now a new problem with her left kidney. Why cant the doctors just be forthcoming. My question I guess is I am correct in assuming that this is tumors causing compression.
