Concerned mom

by AnnieO22864, Jul 14, 2009 02:16PM
I am a 45-year old mom to three kids.  I suffered a miscarriage last November--I had an internal ultrasound done and my doctor found a small cyst on my left ovary (less than .5 cm).  She recommended Loestrin as an oral contraceptive and I had regular periods until April when I began to bleed through my cycle.  I was under alot of stress during that time so I attributed the irregularity to that.  I stopped the Loestrin in April and have not had a period since.  I continue to have monthly symptoms; i.e. back pain, irritablity etc...but no blood loss.

I have a family history of both ovarian and breast cancer and I am concerned.  I have an appointment with my doctor soon, so is there any specific questions I should be looking to ask?  Am I in menopause?  I have been expriencing some symptoms of menopause--thinning of hair, joint pain, memory problems... I had a CA-125 test a couple of years ago that came back slightly elevated (36).  Internal ultrasound was normal.

I appreciate any assistance.

Thank you,

Hi There
you should ask your doctor about genetic testing for BRCA 1 and BRCA 2 gene mutations.
also , should you consider the prophylactic removal of your ovaries and tubes with your family history?
best wishes
