Confused

Just had a Laparotomy 4 weeks ago due to having a large cyst on my left ovary, 13cm x 9cm, and last week I had the results back. My consultant told me that it was a stage 1 cancer and that he is wanting to remove my other ovarie. I am 34 years old and very confused about what I should do. He told me that mathematicly it could come back is this true? He has given me 2 months to disguss this with my family, to see if I am going through with this. We don't want anymore children as we have 5yr twins and a 13yr old, but it means going through this awfull operation again. I also had to have laser treatment on my cervix 10 yrs ago due to abnormal cells. Is all this going to continue?.

I agree with Teresa and Joanne.  Surgery is no fun, but it sure beats the cancer returning.  I am so sorry that you have to deal with this.  It ***** at my age, but is even more unfair at your age. Get you a good gyn/onc and heal fast.  We are here for you.  Marie

I really appreciate your advice, it is really helpfull. Really sorry to hear that your cancer has come back Teresa. It takes something like this to make you realise how serious and vicous cancer is. I am so lucky that it has been caught in time. The doctor did say that ovarian cancer very rarely gets caught as soon as this. It normally is in a further stage. Although mine is no where near  as bad as lots of others get, it is still very scarey. Life has to go on, and I wish you both all the best.

Your Dr is correct about it coming back on the other ovary.  If you have it removed before than you have a 95% chance of not having ovca.  I would also go have a second opinion with a Onc/gyn.  They are the specialist and are trained differently. Studies have shown that using a onc/gyn the patient will have an overall better chance at survival. I'm not sure about the cervical problem so I can't help you there, but please go see a gyn/onc!!!  Good luck~~~~Joanne

Unfortunately, life throw us passes we don't like to catch.  Any form of female cancer is not welcomed.  It is best to go ahead and get the other ovary removed. Ovarian cancer is a mysterious disease that pounces up and gets us when we are least expecting it.  You will be glad later that you went ahead and had the surgery.  Cancer can come back from any stage.  I am a Stage IIC.  Mine probably never went away after chemo.  I have to have to major surgeries within a ten month span.  It will be no fun, but it is necessary.

If you are not sure of your doctor's advice, do get a second opinion.  Also, only use a GYN/ONC for this second surgery.  They have more experience with this disease and your chances of a good outcome are much better.
You have my best wishes.
Teresa
