Could something be seriously wrong?

by curiousinmass, Oct 22, 2009 12:58PM
Hi I'm 31 and recently went for my annual pap exam (after missing them for two years).  The doctor took swabs for testing.  She also asked if I experienced bleeding after sex.  I said no.  She also said she wanted me to have a pelvic ultrasound.  That made me a little worried because she's never recommended that before.  And now I just got my results back.  The interpretation reads "Negative for intrepithelial lesion or malignancy." The samples were evaluated with computer assisted technology.  The HPV DNA High Risk: Detected.  Reference Range: Not detected.  And they have just called to say that they would like me to see an OB/GYN after the unltrasound.  I had them fax me my results so that I could try to understand them and written on the bottom is the word "critical".

I'm sure everything is fine, but it's just causing me to worry.  My mom had a hysterectamy due to abnormal bleeding.  Not sure how old she was or anything.  We are not that close so it's awkward to ask those questions.

Can you please offer any insight???

Hi Dr. Goodman,
Thank you for your response.  I have not had the pelvic ultrasound.  I'm scheduled to go the beginning of November.  The OB/GYN that my primary tried to schedule me to see was not available until December and she didn't want me to wait that long.  Anyway, I'll now see on OB/GYN on Monday and then will have the pelvic ultrasound in November.  I guess my concern is that my doctor could have seen something bad the day she did my pap exam just by the naked eye.  Could that be?
And thank you for taking so much of your time to respond to so many of us that post our questions and concerns on here.  You are a gift.
