I looked this up and read it and it is a great article. Cells that were pre-treated with cranberry extract before receiving carbo were 6 times more likely to respond to treatment than those not treated. It is especially helpful when someone is carbo resistant. It says about a glass a day is sufficient to get what you need. You all should read the whole article for yourselves. Good medical news for us is so rare that I think this is just a wonderful excuse to CELEBRATE. So let's all lift our glasses of cranberry juice and toast the teams that worked on this. Going to bed now. Chemo yesterday and neulasta shot today. Was doing great until I was rudely reminded of the bone crushing pain in my legs. Thank goodness for yoga and hydros. East meets west is good. Night nite.

Your message about your daughter brought tears to my eyes. Her saying "Mom, I have to do it for myself" is exactly what I tell my mom everyday when I go to work. Even though I feel horrible, being at work makes me feel "normal." I own a salon in Boulder and LOVE to do hair. When I am with my clients and the stylists, I feel happy. I try to do as many things as possible to feel "normal" - my last chemo treatment was last Wed. and I worked Thurs and Friday! Tell your daughter I think she is amazing! With Love, Deandra
Just talked to Les about this and she takes 1 cranberry capsule per day, she says it is 5 mg. she also drinks 1 or 2 glasses of the juice perday. she has always had to drink the juice because she was born with 4 kidneys, 2 normal size, the other two are small but functional. the juice acts to cleanse the toxins out of the urine and keeps a good balance between acid/alkaline. she likes it "on the rocks" she also snacks on a mix we make that has dried cranberries in it. Even her cereal has cranberries it it. I would call cranberries OUR gogi berry.
Marty,
I have read studies in the past on the benefits of cranberry juice...and now this one. Do you know if it says anywhere what the optimal amount might be? I like cranberry juice to a point, but I don't know if I could consume an entire big bottle every day. Of course, if it helps, I might just have to hold my nose and chug!
Thanks,
Gail
Just to let you all know, if you can't "crash" the party, I will carry all of you there in spirit.
That does sound like so much fun. I wish I could join you all. LesLee sounds like a big inspiration to all of us. That would be no easy feat for anybody to carry out, let alone someone fighting this wretched disease! She also sounds very lucky to have such a loving supportive mother. If she is anything like me, you have your job cut out for you trying to keep her from over doing it. I wish you luck. Please let us know how everything turns out! LOL Chris

That all sounds like such fun! If I lived closer, I'd "crash" the party. You should be very proud of her. It is very important to try to live as "normal" a life as possible with this damn disease, and I can see that Leslee is following that theory. God Bless her! You'll have to tell us all about it after the party! I'm sure you will keep her in line so that she won't be too tired to enjoy all the festivites. Have fun; you and she are always in my thougths and prayers
Judie :)
Believe it or not Leslee is planning a Halloween fest at their farm for kids and adults, next Saturday night. I asked her if she was:"up" for it?, and since she has been doing these parties since her girls were small, only missed last year, she said " Mom I have to do it for myself " these are not just food and small game things, along with her hubby and the girls and their hubbys, she makes a maze trail with all sorts of "scary" things, a treasure hunt, bonfire, with hot dogs and smores, hay rack ride, pumpkin carving, everyone has to come in costume, she expects around 80 people. Leslee is a very remarkable woman and to say that I am proud of her is true. She is fighting the cancer, but she also is fighting to be as " normal" as possible. All she will let me do is bring Apple Crisp. She doesn't know it yet but her brother from AZ is flying in with his two oldest girls, ages 7 and 9.
I read the article on the NIH website and was very impressed. I have always rotated juices so they don't get boring and had been taking cranberry capsules, but I will start drinking it every day now. Thanks for the tip. How's Leslee today?

That's interesting, thanks. Now if only they could come up with a damn cure.
