Curious about recovery time..

I am having a dermoid cycst removed from my ovary on Monday 8/29.  It is very possible that my ovary and tube will be removed as well.  Although I know recovery time varies from each person, can someone tell me approx. how long recovery time is? And what is it I can expect during my recovery (pain, uncomfortable)?  I'm so nervous about this entire procedure and what it will be like for me the day's following it.

I had a dermoid cyst surgically removed on 8/25 and all went great. I was able to come home 2 days later on Saturday.

I'm at home for 6 weeks but recovery so far hasn't been bad.

Take pain medication as needed and just take it easy.

This was my surgery ever, and I am amazed at how fast the body can heal after trauma like surgery!

Surgery Thursday, off morphine by Friday, staples out Saturday and sent home! Nothing like I expected. Everyone is different though, I realize this. I wish that all of you who are waiting for your day have the same experience as I did.

...and by the way, Blockbuster online movie rental's or Net Flix (same kinda thing) is a great thing to set up before you have surgery, if you'll be home recovering as long as I will. Of course great books are good to.

Make sure to set up your *healing* area. If your bed is too high you may not be able to hop onto it. I had a small platform/step made for mine. Something very simply put together from my Dad.

I also did all my shopping before hand. Lot's of healthy easy snacks, lunches, and dinners on hand.

Bought bagels and sliced and froze them. Now I just pop them in the toaster and there's breakfast.

Also, a Homeopathic treatment or healing rememdy is called Arnica. It's great for trauma or surgeries and heals on the INSIDE. I'm also taking these. Health food store should have them. I got mine at Whole Foods. Just put a few under your tongue and they dissolve. But read instructions on package.

Take it easy and don't rush your body to get better. Give it the time it needs.

Much luck to everyone.

Yes, please do let us know how the surgery and recovery go for you.  I believe that you will be fine.  Surgeries like these are rather common, so there are many surgeons who are well-practiced at these procedures.

Thank you so much for the information.  It really helped.  I'm extremely scared about the operation.  I'm 37 and have a small child and so affraid something horrible will happen.  I will let you know how it all went.

hi
My surgery is MOnday too.  To remove a complex cyst and a uterine fibroid.  I KNOW how you feel about being scared.  I figure if we made it thru giving birth we can make it thru anything.  Good Luck, im sure all will be great.

Look down the page to 7/28 for a post I made to "jsdjeanne".  I had a large endometrioma, my left ovary, and the left fallopian tube removed, so  you should get an idea of the surgery and recovery from my experience.
